Don’t let your Discord profile changes disappear into the void. Discord may sometimes struggle to save your profile changes. This is especially frustrating if you spent hours crafting your profile section.

In this guide, we’ll explore what can be causing this issue and provide solutions for troubleshooting it in Discord.

Why Discord Fails Saving Profile Changes

Featured image screenshot of the Discord profile changes

While the problem with Discord not saving changes is often related to a buggy server, several factors could contribute to this problem. Here are some of the most common of them.

  • Server Overload: Discord servers may sometimes experience heavy traffic or overload, resulting in delays or failures in processing profile changes.
  • Network Issues: Poor internet connectivity or intermittent network disruptions can interfere with the communication between your device and Discord servers, preventing profile changes from being saved.
  • Software Bugs: Like any software, Discord isn’t immune to bugs or glitches. An underlying software issue could be causing profile changes to fail to save properly.
  • Cache and Cookies: Accumulated cache and cookies in your browser or Discord app may sometimes interfere with the saving process, preventing profile changes from being applied.
  • Permissions: In some cases, restricted permissions or account settings may prevent you from saving certain profile changes, especially if they involve sensitive information.

How to Fix Discord Not Saving Profile Changes

Now that you understand potential reasons for Discord failing to save your profile changes, you can troubleshoot them more effectively. We recommend trying every method outlined below one by one, checking whether each of them solves the Discord issue.

1. Restart Discord

When Discord fails to save profile changes, a quick fix might be as simple as restarting the application. When you do it, you can establish a fresh connection to the Discord servers, potentially resolving any glitches or synchronization issues.

Screenshot of quitting the Discord app on Mac

Here’s how to restart Discord on different devices:

  • Windows: In the Windows taskbar, select the Show hidden icons button, then right-click on Discord, and choose Quit Discord.
  • macOS: Go to the Discord menu and select Quit, or press Command + Q on your keyboard to quit.
  • Android: Launch the Recent Items window and slide Discord from the edges of the screen to completely close it.
  • iPhone: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen, locate the Discord app, and swipe up to remove it and close the application.

After closing Discord, restart the app and check if the profile changes are saving correctly.

2. Update the Discord App

Keeping your Discord app updated is crucial for resolving errors like Discord not being able to save your profile changes, among others. Discord frequently releases updates to address bugs and glitches, including issues with account management.

Screenshot of the Discord website download the app for Mac

Usually, Discord updates automatically each time you start the app. However, if you’re still encountering the error, manual intervention might be necessary.

If automatic updates fail to resolve the issue, you can manually download and install the latest version from the Discord website. This ensures you have the most recent fixes and improvements.

3. Switch to Another Device

If you’re encountering issues with Discord not saving profile changes, consider switching to another device as a potential solution. Sometimes, variations between the app and web versions can cause syncing problems, and using a different device can trigger a system refresh, resolving the issue.

Experiment with changing your profile theme or other settings on your mobile and desktop apps. That way, you can determine if one version of the app allows you to successfully save the changes.

4. Clear Discord’s Cache

Clearing Discord’s cache can often resolve issues like Discord not saving profile changes. The Discord app stores a significant amount of data, including messages, images, and links, in its cache folder. When this cache folder becomes too large, it can lead to performance issues.

Screenshot of clearing Discord cache on Android

Here’s how you can clear Discord’s cache on different devices.

On Mac or PC

On your computer, navigate to the dedicated Discord’s Cache folder and delete the contents of this folder.

On Android

  1. Open the Settings app on your device.
  2. Scroll down and select Apps or Applications.
  3. Find and select Discord from the list of installed apps.
  4. Select Storage or Storage & cache.
  5. Select Clear cache to clear Discord’s cache.

On iPhone or iPad

Unfortunately, there isn’t a direct option to clear Discord’s cache on iOS devices. Your best option is to offload or delete the Discord app and reinstall it. Keep in mind that this will also remove any saved login credentials and app settings.

By clearing Discord’s cache, you can potentially resolve issues related to profile changes not being saved and ensure smoother performance of the app.

5. Disable Community Mode

Disabling Community Mode can be an effective solution if you’re encountering issues with Discord server settings. Despite being a longstanding feature, Community Mode may still interfere with server settings, causing users inconvenience.

If you find yourself unable to modify server settings, temporarily disabling Community Mode can provide a workaround. To disable Community Mode, follow the steps below. The instructions are the same for both mobile and desktop users.

  1. Open the Discord app on your device.
  2. From the list of server options, select your server and open Server Settings.
Screenshot of Discord Server Settings
  1. In the sidebar menu on the left side of the screen, find the Community section.
  2. In the Overview tab, scroll down and select Disable Community.
Screenshot of Discord disabling community mode
  1. Confirm the change by selecting the Save Changes button.

Once you’ve made the necessary adjustments to your profile, you can choose to re-enable Community Mode. However, if you frequently encounter issues with server settings, leaving Community Mode disabled permanently may offer a smoother Discord experience.

6. Try Enabling or Disabling VPN

Network issues can sometimes disrupt Discord’s ability to save changes effectively. If your server is unresponsive despite other troubleshooting methods, try using a VPN to see if it resolves the issue.

Screenshot of PrivadoVPN software

Enabling a VPN can provide a more stable network connection, potentially resolving any connectivity issues that may be hindering Discord’s functionality. At the same time, if you’re already using a VPN, try disabling it temporarily to see if it makes a difference.

Switching to cellular networks can also improve your chances of successfully implementing server changes. By changing your network environment, you may bypass any network-related issues that could be affecting Discord’s performance.

7. Check for Timeout

Frequent changes to server settings, such as altering the server icon or profile theme, can trigger a timeout mechanism within Discord. If you’re unable to save changes despite multiple attempts, it’s possible that your server has entered a timeout state.

If you’ve encountered a timeout, it’s best to wait for approximately 20 minutes before attempting to make further changes. This waiting period allows Discord to reset and mitigate any issues related to excessive modification attempts.

To avoid triggering a timeout in the future, avoid making multiple modification attempts in quick succession.

8. Contact Support and Submit a Bug Report

If you’ve exhausted all troubleshooting options and continue to experience issues with Discord not saving profile changes, submitting a bug report can help resolve the underlying problem.

Here’s how you can submit a bug report to the Discord support team.

  1. Open a web browser and navigate to the Discord Support website.
  2. In the upper-right corner, select the Submit a request option.
  3. Under What can we help you with, open the dropdown menu and select Bug Reporting to report the issue.
Screenshot of submitting a report to Discord Support Team
  1. Fill in the required details, including a detailed description of the problem you’re experiencing, any relevant error messages, and steps to reproduce the issue.
  2. Once you’ve provided all the necessary information, select the Submit button to send your bug report to Discord support.

By submitting a detailed bug report, you’re helping Discord’s support team identify and address the issue more effectively, ultimately contributing to a smoother user experience for all Discord users, not just yourself.

Learn How to Fix Any Discord Issue

Encountering issues with Discord not saving profile changes can be frustrating, but with the right troubleshooting steps, you can resolve the issue and get back to customizing your Discord experience.

Remember to stay patient and thorough in your troubleshooting efforts, and don’t hesitate to contact Discord support if necessary.

Among all digital note-taking apps, there are two names that stand out – GoodNotes and Notability. Let’s delve into the GoodNotes vs. Notability comparison, explore the similarities and differences between the two, and find out which note-taking app is better for you.

Launched in 2011, GoodNotes, a brainchild of Time Base Technology, markets itself as an AI note-taking app “loved by millions.” On the other hand, Notability, created in 2010 by Ginger Labs, proudly claims the title of the “best-selling paid note-taking app on the App Store,” catering particularly to students.

GoodNotes vs. Notability: First Impressions

For iOS users navigating the Apple ecosystem, GoodNotes and Notability are both familiar names when it comes to digital note-taking. Even though in this article we’ll be focusing on what makes these two apps different, they also have a lot in common, including features like PDF annotation, audio recording, and numerous note-taking templates.

GoodNotes shines with its latest iteration, GoodNotes 6. This version refines handwriting, rich formatting, iCloud syncing, and introduces cross-platform functionality – it’s now available for Android users too. Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is a new impressive feature that translates handwritten notes into text across 17 languages. Other unique features like Flash Cards and interchangeable templates add to its appeal.

GoodNotes screenshot

Notability, tailored for iPad and Mac users only, simplifies note creation and editing with diverse input methods. It accommodates images, PDFs, web clips, and audio recordings seamlessly. Robust markup tools and a noteworthy audio recording feature enhance its utility. The Notability gallery provides user-created templates and well-executed handwriting recognition.

Notability screenshot

Both apps seem like decent choices for digital note-taking. But which one should you give your preference to? Let’s find out.

Features & Tools

Let’s have a look over the main writing features that both of these note-taking apps offer their users.

GoodNotes Features:

  • AI Writing Support: Automated spelling checks and word prompts enhance writing.
  • AI-Guided Study Sessions: AI Math Assistant aids interactive SAT exam-prep materials.
  • Handwriting-to-Text Conversions: Automatic transformation of handwritten text into typed notes.
  • Flashcards: Converts notes into flashcard-based study sets with spaced repetition.
  • Edit and Annotate PDFs: Easily sign, highlight, and annotate PDFs.
  • Audio Record: Syncs audio clips with typed or handwritten notes.

Notability Features:

  • Audio Transcription: Provides time-stamped transcripts synced with handwritten or typed notes.
  • Handwriting-to-Text Conversions: The “Scribble” feature transforms handwritten notes to text.
  • Math Conversion: Recognizes handwritten mathematical expressions and transforms them.
  • Multi-Note: Allows simultaneous work on two notes in horizontal or vertical view.
  • Reminders with Siri: This enables setting up reminders for notes using Siri.

While both apps boast an extensive set of note-taking features, GoodNotes seems to be ahead with its AI-powered writing support and learning tools that students can use for exam preparation.

Selecting between GoodNotes and Notability often comes down to the tools they offer, crucial for your enjoyable note-taking experience. So let’s take a look at what tools both apps have available.

GoodNotes Tools:

  • Pen tools include fountain, ballpoint, and brush with 12 color variants.
  • The highlighter tool goes behind notes without dimming them.
  • Basic eraser tool that easily deletes texts and lines.
  • Additional tools like Zoom and Lasso enhance functionality.

Notability Tools:

  • Two pen tools, a fountain, a ballpoint, and a pencil tool.
  • Slider for adjusting stroke width.
  • Ruler and Tape tools (unique to Notability). Ruler aids in drawing straight lines, while Tape helps in blocking sections for focused study.
  • Lasso tool allows the selective picking of items on a page.

In this category, Notability claims a slight edge due to its comprehensive toolset that makes note-taking easier and more efficient.

User Interface: Layout and Navigation

Both GoodNotes and Notability have user-friendly interfaces that you’ll have no problem navigating. Each of the apps comes with subtle differences in their layout setups.

GoodNotes:

Upon opening GoodNotes, you’ll see a clean, minimalist screen emphasizing organization. Documents are displayed in list or grid formats, and a sidebar opens with a press of the GoodNotes icon on the upper left.

GoodNotes app interface

Notability:

Opening Notability reveals a list of folders on the left, with notes inside appearing on the right upon selecting a folder. You can choose a grid or list format and employ collapsible toggles for folder organization.

Notability app interface

When it comes to layout, Notability takes the lead by allowing users to preview notes from the home screen, providing a visual advantage. GoodNotes’ alphabetical order system slightly hinders its otherwise efficient design.

Navigation

Efficient navigation is crucial for a seamless user experience, and both apps offer straightforward systems.

GoodNotes:

GoodNotes provides simple navigation with sorting options like “Name,” “Date,” “Type,” and more. The search bar facilitates quick access to specific notes, even handwritten ones.

Notability:

Notability’s navigation is sleek, displaying subjects within folders upon opening. Users can sort notes by name, modified date, or created date. However, essential tools are behind a paywall.

Despite slightly fewer navigation tools, GoodNotes offers them all in the free version, making it the preferred choice for seamless navigation.

In the battle of GoodNotes vs. Notability for user interface and navigation, each app brings its strengths. Notability excels in home screen previews & layout but introduces paywall limitations. Meanwhile, GoodNotes provides efficient navigation tools, providing you with a user-friendly experience without unnecessary barriers.

Templates

Templates play a vital role in kick-starting projects and shaping the course of your ideas. Both GoodNotes and Notability offer basic page templates, but the extent of their template libraries and customization options is different.

GoodNotes has an extensive library of pre-designed templates catering to diverse needs, including class notes, project planning, and journaling. From simple lined paper to intricate designs, GoodNotes covers a broad spectrum of styles. The app also empowers users to create their custom templates, providing flexibility for specific note requirements or unique layouts.

GoodNotes templates

Notability also provides a range of templates, although with a library that may not match GoodNotes in size. The templates are designed for note-taking, drawing, sketching, and more, showcasing practicality for various situations. While Notability allows some template customization, it may lack the diversity and flexibility found in GoodNotes.

Notability templates

Custom Template Creation

In GoodNotes, while you can’t directly create custom templates, you can modify an existing page to serve as a template. Additionally, the app allows the importation of custom templates into the library for future use.

Notability introduces the Gallery feature, enabling users to craft their custom templates within the app. This feature enhances the template customization experience for Notability users.

When it comes to templates, GoodNotes emerges as the victor for its diverse template library and robust customization options, offering users a versatile and tailored note-taking experience.

Writing Experience

The writing experience is crucial in choosing a note-taking app, and both GoodNotes and Notability deliver top-tier performances. Your personal preference will largely influence your choice between these two contenders.

GoodNotes:

Renowned for replicating the feel of traditional handwriting, GoodNotes excels in delivering a natural writing experience, particularly appealing to those people who cherish the fluidity of pen and paper.

The app supports a wide range of pen sizes, colors, and styles, providing a high level of customization. GoodNotes’ palm rejection feature allows comfortable writing while resting your hand on the screen, making it suitable for Apple Pencil and pen input.

GoodNotes note taking example screenshot

Among other things, the app introduces an impressive generative AI tool as a writing aid, generating text, spell-checking, and correcting errors in your unique handwriting style. The latest update, GoodNotes 6, even suggests words. Users have the flexibility to disable spell check and suggestions if desired.

Notability:

Notability provides an effortless and responsive writing experience, offering a variety of pen and pencil options to suit your preferences. A standout feature is the ability to capture audio while taking notes, syncing your written notes with audio recordings – a valuable asset for lectures or meetings.

Optimized for the Apple Pencil and other styluses, Notability ensures precise and natural handwriting. The palm rejection technology prevents accidental marks on your digital paper while writing.

Notability note taking example screenshot

Notability also offers a remarkable handwriting-to-text feature with the “Scribble” option, ensuring automatic transformations. This feature supports 23 languages, enhancing the app’s accessibility.

While both apps provide handwriting-to-text conversions, Notability supports a broader range of languages. However, GoodNotes stands out with its advanced generative AI writing aid, offering personalized text generation, spell-checking, and error correction. GoodNotes could enhance language support, but its innovative AI tool secures a win in this round.

Compatibility & Integrations

Both GoodNotes and Notability offer online versions that you can use in your web browser, desktop versions to use on your computer, and mobile versions. However, while GoodNotes is available for iOS, Android, Windows, and Mac, Notability only has apps for iPad, Mac, and iPhone, making this an obvious limitation for Android users.

Integrations also play a crucial role in shaping the user experience of note-taking apps, and here GoodNotes emerges as a winner.

GoodNotes:

Even though it now has an Android version as well, GoodNotes is still primarily tailored for Apple users. The app works seamlessly with the entire Apple ecosystem.

GoodNotes Cloud & Backup options

The integration with iCloud ensures a smooth flow of note synchronization across all Apple devices and provides you with a reliable and connected experience. The compatibility extends to the Apple Pencil, allowing for precise and fluid handwriting.

However, GoodNotes goes beyond this by supporting various file-sharing and cloud storage services, including Google Drive and Dropbox. You can export your notes to different storage facilities. Plus, the introduction of Beta versions for Android and Windows marks GoodNotes’ commitment to broadening compatibility and going further beyond the Apple ecosystem.

Notability:

Notability also functions seamlessly within the Apple environment. Using iCloud for efficient note synchronization across Apple devices, the app ensures robust backup capabilities.

The app’s compatibility also extends to the Apple Pencil, making it the preferred stylus for users. Notability further facilitates PDF file import/export and annotation, making it compatible with other file-sharing and cloud storage services.

Notability sharing options screenshot

While both apps share similarities in integrating with various tools and software programs, GoodNotes takes the lead by allowing users to create an account and use the app on Android devices.

Pricing

One last important aspect that we need to cover is pricing.

GoodNotes:

  • Free version
  • Full version available for iOS for $9.99 annually or a one-time purchase of $29.99
  • Full version for Android/WIndows for $6.99 annually
GoodNotes subscription pricing

GoodNotes adopts a straightforward pricing strategy tailored for Apple users. The full version of GoodNotes for iOS offers users the flexibility of a one-time purchase at $29.99 or an annual subscription priced at $9.99. For those venturing into the Windows or Android domain, GoodNotes extends a cost-effective option with a subscription of $6.99 per year. The limited plan comes free of charge, allowing users to explore essential features without a financial commitment.

Notability:

  • Free version
  • Plus version for $14.99 annually
Notability Plus pricing

Notability presents a pricing model with a single payment option for its premium plan. Users opting for the Plus plan can get it for $14.99 annually. Similar to GoodNotes, Notability also provides a free limited plan, allowing users to experience the app’s core functionalities without incurring any costs.

Overall, GoodNotes stands out as the winner, offering a more budget-friendly option with a slightly lower cost compared to Notability.

GoodNotes vs. Notability: Which App is Best?

Choosing between Notability and GoodNotes is a matter of taste. GoodNotes shines with AI innovations, making it a note-taking marvel. Notability’s sleek interface caters to a streamlined experience.

Our winner is GoodNotes, lauded for its cutting-edge AI, interactive SAT exam-prep materials, and timed flashcards. It’s the epitome of note-taking excellence.

Notability boasts unique features, like math conversion, securing its spot as a solid but slightly pricier option.

Before making the ultimate choice though, we recommend you check out all of the top options of note taking apps out there.

Don’t waste your time looking for a magic button that will hide followers on Instagram—it doesn’t exist. Instead, we’ll show you all the workarounds you can use to hide your followers and the following list from other people, depending on whether you have a public or private account on Instagram.

Can You Hide Your Followers on Instagram?

Currently, Instagram does not provide an official “hide followers” feature for general Instagram users. However, there have been reports and indications that Instagram might be in the early stages of testing a new feature, particularly for verified Instagram profiles with blue checkmarks. Some users report that they’ve seen a message stating, “Only (username) can see all of their followers” when viewing certain celebrity and video game company profiles.

Screenshot from Instagram app No users found

Note that this testing phase seems limited and is not universally applicable. The majority of Instagram accounts, even those with verification status, don’t have the option to hide their followers. Additionally, many users can still access the follower lists of those accounts participating in this test.

How to Hide Followers & Following List on Instagram

For those who care about their account privacy – aside from your list of followers, you can hide likes & views from your Instagram posts and your activity status from others even if you don’t have a private Instagram account.

If “hide my followers” is your only goal, here are a few ways you can try to hide them from specific users.

1. Make Your Account Private

The easiest way to limit the visibility of the list of people who follow you on Instagram is to set your account to private. This ensures that these followers lists are accessible only to those who follow you, enhancing your privacy on the social media platform.

Follow this step-by-step guide to making your Instagram account private. The instructions are the same for iOS and Android users.

  1. Open Instagram on your smartphone.
  2. Tap the profile icon located at the bottom-right corner of the Instagram app to open your profile page.
  3. Open the Settings menu by tapping the three horizontal lines at the top-right corner of the screen.
Screenshot from Instagram app Settings menu
  1. In the Settings menu, tap Privacy or select Settings and privacy (depending on the app version you have).
  2. Scroll through the privacy settings and select Account privacy.
Screenshot from Instagram app Account privacy menu
  1. Toggle the switch next to Private Account to activate it and make your profile private.
Screenshot from Instagram app turn account private

By setting your account to private, you create a more closed network where only your approved followers can see your followers and those you follow. One downside is that you’ll need to manually approve every new follower request after you set your account to private, which can be time-consuming.

2. Remove People From Your Instagram

After making your Instagram account private, you have the ability to control who sees your followers. If there’s a particular user in your followers list whom you’d prefer not to have access to this information, you can easily remove them.

To remove followers from your Instagram, follow the steps below.

  1. Open Instagram and tap your profile photo at the bottom right of the Instagram app.
  2. Navigate to the Followers section at the top.
  3. Scroll through the list and locate the specific person you want to remove.
  4. Select Remove next to the username of the person you wish to remove.
Screenshot from Instagram app remove a follower
  1. Confirm your action by tapping Remove again.

By following these steps, you effectively remove the selected person from your followers list. This restricts their access to your follower and following lists, Instagram Stories, and posts. However, they can see the follower count on your Instagram profile (the number of followers you have). This method provides a level of control over who has insight into your account activities while maintaining your privacy preferences.

This is an effective solution for maintaining a level of privacy, but it works best with private personal accounts. If you’re a content creator, an influencer or a brand aiming for broader exposure, it may be more beneficial to have a public account. If that’s your case, try another solution to hide your followers on Instagram.

3. Block People on Instagram

If you have a business account or if you’re working on increasing your reach on Instagram, turning your account private might not be a great option.

Screenshot from Instagram app Business accounts can't be private

In this case, the only way to hide followers on a public Instagram account is by blocking specific people.

This is an alternative approach for those looking to control who can view their followers and following lists without going completely private on the app. The obvious downside here is that you cannot hide your followers from everyone at once. Instead, you’ll have to go to each individual profile and block them.

Here’s how you can block a user on Instagram.

  1. Open Instagram and navigate to the profile of the user you want to block.
  2. On their profile page, tap the three dots icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Screenshot from Instagram app block a person
  1. From the options, select Block. Instagram will provide you with the option to block only this specific account or all accounts that may be created by the user. Choose the appropriate option and tap Block again.

Once blocked, the user won’t be able to find your page, and consequently, your followers, following lists, and content on Instagram will be hidden from them. It’s important to note that blocking one account also extends to all accounts linked to the same email or number.

While this method effectively hides your followers, keep in mind that a determined user can create a new account using a different email or phone number. Blocking someone on Instagram not only conceals your followers but also prevents them from accessing your posts, stories, or reels, and the ability to contact you. This is a practical solution for selectively restricting access without making your entire account private.

If you later change your mind, you can simply go to their page and unblock them.

Keep Your Instagram Followers Private

Even though Instagram doesn’t offer a direct way to hide followers and following lists on Instagram from other users, several workarounds will help you do just that.

Whether you opt to make your account private, remove specific followers, or use the blocking feature, the goal is to maintain your Instagram privacy according to your preferences. Each method has its advantages and considerations, so choose the approach that aligns best with your online presence and social media objectives.

OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has always been transparent about logging all ChatGPT interactions. They use the chat history feature to keep these records and to enhance its language model. Despite assuring users that the data is solely for training purposes, this raised privacy concerns among many users.

In response, OpenAI introduced a new feature called Incognito mode, which allows you to use ChatGPT without having your interactions recorded.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to use this new privacy feature, as well as show you other ways you can use it to keep your ChatGPT chats hidden.

How to Use Private ChatGPT Mode to Hide Your Chats

The ChatGPT Incognito Mode is available to both free users and paid subscribers. In this mode, your chats are not stored, ensuring privacy. Plus, Open AI will not use your data for internal testing.

Picture of ChatGPT logo

If you change your mind, you can always re-enable it. Just remember, chats in this mode automatically vanish after 30 days.

Here’s how to activate Incognito Mode on your computer:

  1. Go to the ChatGPT website and log into your account.
  2. In the bottom-left corner of the screen, select the three dots icon next to your username (or your profile pic) to open the menu.
Screenshot of ChatGPT Settings menu
  1. From the menu, choose Settings.
  2. In the Settings window, select Data Controls.
Screenshot of ChatGPT Data Controls menu
  1. Toggle the switch off next to Chat History & Training to enter Incognito mode and disable recording of your chats.

That’s it, now your chat history is incognito. If you’re using ChatGPT on different devices or in different browsers, you’ll need to follow the same steps to enable the Incognito mode on each of them individually.

If you later change your mind, or need to access your conversations in normal mode, simply select Enable Chat History from the sidebar on the left.

Other Ways to Hide Your ChatGPT Chats on Computer

The Incognito mode isn’t the only method you can use to keep your ChatGPT conversations completely private. Here are a few more ways you can use to hide your chats.

Use ChatGPT Without Signing In (With the Help of Merlin AI)

Logging into your account brings up all your previously recorded chats, as your chat history on ChatGPT is tied to your OpenAI account. One way to avoid OpenAI keeping records is to skip the login part.

Merlin AI is a chatbot assistant that comes in the form of an application and browser extension that can help you use ChatGPT without signing into your OpenAI account. All you need to do is download the Marlin app or extension and start using ChatGPT inside it. You’ll need to create an account with Merlin to do it, but the information from this account won’t be shared with OpenAI, thus keeping your conversations private.

Wish to use ChatGPT without signing in? Here’s how to do it using Merlin for ChatGPT:

  1. Download the Merlin AI extension from the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Go to the webpage where you want to use Merlin AI. Then select the Merlin extension icon in the Chrome toolbar.

  1. Select Sign in.
  2. You can use the same or a different email address. Merlin won’t link it to your OpenAI account.

Hide Your Chats by Archiving Them

If you just want to hide your conversations, you can archive them using another built-in feature in ChatGPT.

It’s important to note that ChatGPT’s archiving feature provides a simple way to organize and hide chats, but it doesn’t add an additional layer of security. Hidden chats are accessible to anyone who navigates to the settings menu, ensuring transparency in the archiving process.

Still, you can use this feature to keep your ChatGPT chats somewhat discreet. Here’s how to archive your chats in ChatGPT:

  1. Visit chat.openai.com and log in with your OpenAI account credentials.
  2. Select the chat you want to hide from the sidebar on the left.
  3. Next to the chat’s name, select the three dots icon to open options and choose Archive chat from the context menu.

  1. Alternatively, select an Archive button next to the chat’s name.

The chat disappears instantly, but you can always retrieve it from the ChatGPT settings. If you want to view your archived chats, you can access them or even bring back hidden conversations with these simple steps.

  1. Select your OpenAI account name in the bottom-left corner.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. In the Settings menu, select Manage next to Archived chats.

  1. To view a hidden chat, select its name. To unhide a chat, select Unarchive conversation next to the Trash icon.

Remember, hidden chats aren’t password-protected and can be accessed by anyone. Keep this in mind for a secure ChatGPT experience.

Hide Your ChatGPT History With a Browser Extension

You can hide your ChatGPT conversations using the Hide ChatGPT Sidebar Chrome extension. It helps you hide your chat history by hiding the sidebar on the left where all of your conversations are listed. This is another method to avoid someone else snooping in your chat history with ChatGPT.

To set it up, follow these steps below.

  1. Download and install the Hide ChatGPT Sidebar extension from the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Open an active ChatGPT session.
  3. Click on the extension icon in Chrome and select Hide ChatGPT Sidebar from the extension options.
  4. Select Toggle Sidebar to hide or show the ChatGPT sidebar. Now you can use the Close Sidebar option to hide your conversation list.

This extension conceals the left sidebar, securing your ChatGPT conversation history from prying eyes. You can keep your chats private with this simple and effective browser extension.

How to Hide Your ChatGPT Chats on Smartphone

If you often use ChatGPT on your smartphone, you may want to keep your chats there hidden as well. The two main ways to hide your ChatGPT chats on your smartphone are using the Incognito Mode feature and archiving your chats. Here’s how to use both of them.

Use Incognito Mode on Your Smartphone

In order to use Incognito Mode on your mobile phone, open the ChatGPT app on your smartphone and follow the steps below.

  1. Open the ChatGPT app on your Android or iOS device.
  2. Open the menu and select the three dots icon next to your username.

  1. From the list of options, select Data Controls.

  1. Toggle the switch off next to Chat History & Training to enter Incognito Mode and keep your chats hidden.

Archive Your Chats on the ChatGPT Mobile App

If you simply want to remove your chats from the conversations list on the app, you can use the Archive chats feature on ChatGPT.

This feature is currently available for the ChatGPT Web users and for iOS users. To archive your chats on your iPhone, follow the steps below.

  1. Open the ChatGPT app and log into your account.
  2. Open the chat list and select the chat that you want to hide.
  3. Long-press on the chat you want to archive (hide) and select Archive from the context menu.

  1. Select Archive again to confirm.

If you don’t see the option to archive your chat, check if your ChatGPT app is up to date.

To view your archived chats on the mobile app, open ChatGPT and open your account menu by selecting the three dots icon next to your username. In the Settings menu, you’ll find your hidden chats under Archived Chats in the Account section. You can then choose to View or Unarchive your hidden chats.

Keep Your ChatGPT Chat History Private

Securing your ChatGPT conversations is now simpler with the introduction of features like Incognito Mode, Archive chats, and others.

Whether disabling chat history, using external applications like Merlin, or leveraging browser extensions, you now have diverse options to enhance your privacy. Follow this tutorial if you’re concerned about keeping your ChatGPT conversations private and your personal information safe from prying eyes.

Do you find the content Instagram shows you on the Explore page annoying or boring? Like the app never actually shows you anything you’d find interesting? The good news is that you can control what you see on this page and trick the Instagram algorithms into showing you more of what you like.

Follow our guide to find out how to reset your Instagram Explore Feed and get more interesting content shown to you on the app.

How to Reset Your Instagram Explore Feed

Instagram creates your Explore page based on your activities. Consistently liking, commenting, following, searching, or sharing similar content shapes what you see, creating a personalized experience.

Yet, sometimes, you might encounter content that is not aligned with your preferences. This could be influenced by interactions with users who have different preferences or region-specific viral content. Instagram’s intricate algorithms also play a role, suggesting content based on what you do and what type of content you view when you use the app.

See too many posts you dislike on your Explore page? No worries – we’ve got your back with a complete guide on resetting your Instagram Explore page. Use the following methods to completely reset your Explore page and get fresh content on Instagram.

Regularly Refresh the Explore Page

If you keep getting the same posts and Reels on the Explore page and want to check out something new, you can use the following quick method to refresh your Explore content.

To refresh the Explore page on Instagram, follow the steps below. The instructions are the same for both Android and iOS users.

  1. Open Instagram on your smartphone and select the magnifying glass icon at the bottom of the screen to open the Explore page.
Instagram Explore page content screenshot on Android
  1. Pull down from the top of the page. This simple action clears out your Explore page, creating a fresh batch of new posts and Reels.
Screenshot of refreshing Instagram Explore page on Android

Remember, though, that while this method refreshes your content, it might not change the type of content Instagram suggests to you.

So, you might still come across content similar to what you’ve seen before. For a more tailored approach, check out the following methods to improve your Explore page for a more tailored approach.

Personalize Instagram’s Algorithm

If your Explore page is cluttered with unwanted content, you can let Instagram know what you don’t want to see. While it may take a while for the algorithm to catch on, marking posts as Not Interested is an effective method for refining your recommendations.

Here’s a quick guide on how to use the Not Interested option to reset your Explore page on Instagram.

  1. Launch Instagram on your smartphone and select the magnifying glass icon at the bottom of the page.
  2. Choose the post you want to remove, select it, and tap the three dots icon above it.
  3. Then select Not interested.
Screenshot of marking Instagram post as Not interested

Instagram will immediately hide this particular post and try not to show you similar posts in the future. You’ll also see a box with suggestions, from which you can choose: Don’t suggest posts with certain words, Manage suggested content (more about this option in a bit), and This post made me uncomfortable. Feel free to choose any of these options to tailor your Explore page content even further.

Screenshot of Instagram Post hidden menu

By doing this, Instagram learns your preferences gradually, improving your content suggestions. If similar content keeps appearing, repeat the process for those posts. Consistently marking posts as Not interested sends a clear signal to Instagram’s algorithm that you’re not a fan.

While the change may not be instant, this method proves to be the most effective for resetting your Explore page. The more you continue marking posts as Not Interested, the more tailored and enjoyable your Explore experience becomes.

Clear App Data & Cash

The next method you can try to reset your Instagram Explore feed is to clear the data and cache on your smartphone. Before you do it, keep in mind that clearing data will most likely change the type of posts that you see on your Explore page. However, this action will also wipe all your saved data and log you out of the Instagram app, so you’ll need to sign in again.

If you don’t want to clear all your saved data, you can only clear the cache. This will not remove your account’s data but might improve your Explore page content.

Clear Data & Cache on Android

Follow the steps below to clear your Instagram data and cache on an Android.

  1. On your Android smartphone, open Settings, scroll down and locate Apps.
  2. Find Instagram in the app list or use the search bar to find the app and select it.
  3. Select Storage usage.
Screenshot of Instagram app information on Android
  1. Then select Clear data and/or Clear cache.
Screenshot of Instagram clear data and clear cache options Android

These instructions differ slightly for various Android devices, but the options should be similar.

After you finish, restart the Instagram app and check the Explore feed for fresh content.

Clear Data & Cache on iPhone

Unfortunately, iOS lacks a direct data/cache clearing option. Instead, you’ll need to delete and reinstall the app to clear Instagram data and cache. To do that, follow the steps below.

  1. On your iPhone, go to Settings and select General.
Screenshot from the settings menu on iPhone
  1. Scroll down and select iPhone Storage. Here, you’ll see a list of apps using up storage on your device.
Screenshot from the General section of the Settings menu on iPhone
  1. Find Instagram in the list of apps and select it.
  2. Select Delete App and follow the on-screen instructions to confirm.

After you’re finished, reinstall the app from the App Store and sign in again to check if the content on your Explore page changed.

Clear Your Instagram Search History

Another method you can use is erasing your Instagram search records. Clearing your Instagram search history will also give you a fresh start regarding the content you see on your Explore page.

To clear your Instagram search history, follow the steps below.

  1. Open Instagram on your device and select your profile icon at the bottom to open your profile page.
  2. Select the hamburger menu icon in the upper-right corner of the screen and select Settings and privacy.
  3. Select Accounts Center from the menu.

  1. Next, under Account settings, select Your information and permissions from the options.
Screenshot of Account settings on Instagram
  1. Select Search history.
Screenshot of Instagram settings' section Your information and permissions
  1. Finally, select Clear all searches at the bottom of the page.
Screenshot of Search history section of the Instagram settings menu

For a more selective approach, you can manually delete searches by tapping your account under Your accounts & profiles. After you choose an account, it’ll open your Search history and you can manually delete individual search entries from the list that you don’t want to have effect on your Instagram suggestions.

Additionally, you can select the Keep searches for option and pick a duration: 3 days, 7 days, 14 days, 30 days, or Default which stores your Facebook searches for a year and your Instagram searches for 30 days.

Clearing your search history is the ultimate way to ensure a fresh Explore page based on your evolving interests.

Control Your Suggested Content

If your Instagram is up to date, you can use the newly added functionality that allows you to control what type of content Instagram suggests for you.

  1. Open the Instagram app on your device and go to your profile page.
  2. Open the hamburger menu and find the What you see section. Select Suggested content.
Screenshot of the Instagram settings - Suggested content section
  1. There you’ll find five different options to control your Suggested content. Here’s what all five of them represent.

Interested

This section has all the posts you’ve marked as Interested in the past 30 days. If you remove a certain post from this list, Instagram will take a note and show you less of similar content.

Screenshot of the Instagram settings - Interested posts

To remove a post from the Interested section, tap Select in the upper-right corner of the screen, choose one or multiple posts you don’t want to see and select Remove.

Sensitive Content

Sensitive content is not something that goes against Instagram Community Guidelines, but instead it’s the content that some people don’t want to see.

Screenshot of the Instagram settings - Sensitive content control

Here, you can choose between the three options: More, Standard, or Less. If you find the posts on your Instagram Explore feed inappropriate, select Less to see less sensitive content.

Snooze Suggested Posts In Feed

Aside from the Explore page, Instagram also shows you suggested content from accounts you don’t follow on your Home feed. This option temporarily hides these suggested posts from your feed for 30 days.

If you never want to see this content, you can return to this setting every 30 days and switch on the toggle to hide the suggested posts.

Not Interested

This section contains the posts that you’ve previously marked as Not interested. If you decide to remove a post from this list, Instagram will take a hint and start suggesting more similar content to you.

Screenshot of the Instagram settings - Not interested posts
  1. Tap Select in the top right corner of the screen.
  2. Choose posts that you want to restore in your Explore feed.
  3. Select Remove at the bottom of the screen.

Specific Words And Phrases

In the last section, you can input words, phrases, and even emojis you don’t want to encounter on Instagram. As a result, Instagram will filter out the content containing these specific words and phrases, and you won’t see them displayed in your feed anymore.

These controls provide a unique opportunity to shape your Instagram experience. By using these options, you can actively control content that resonates with your preferences, ensuring your Explore page aligns with your interests.

Make the Instagram Explore Feed Great Again!

Turning your Instagram Explore into a personal haven is about tweaking and tuning. From clearing the app’s cache, to marking interests, to handling sensitive stuff – you’ve got the power to mold your Explore feed the way you like.

While Instagram encourages swift responses, you don’t always want people to know whether you’ve read their messages already or not.

Until recently, Instagram didn’t have a direct way to turn off read receipts. Now they’ve implemented this feature, but not in the most convenient way – you have to go through all of your chats to turn off read receipts for them individually. In this article, you’ll find out how to turn off read receipts using the new feature as well as how to use different workarounds to read direct messages on Instagram without alerting the sender.

How to Turn Off Read Receipts on Instagram

Instagram finally came up with a feature that allows you to read messages on Instagram without the app sending the read receipt to the sender.

For now, this function is only available on the Instagram mobile app for Android and iOS users, and not on the Instagram web. You also have to make sure your Instagram app is up to date before you go searching for the new function.

To update your Instagram app on Android, open the Play Store, search for Instagram in the search bar, and select Update next to Instagram.

To update the Instagram app on iPhone, open the App Store, search for Instagram, and select the Update option next to it. Then wait for a few minutes for the app to update and launch it again.

If you have the latest updates already installed, you won’t find the Update option next to the app’s name, but see an option to Open it instead.

Screenshot from Instagram Play Store page

After making sure the app is up to date, follow the steps below to turn this feature on in your Instagram chats.

  1. Open the Instagram app on your smartphone.
  2. Open the list with your chats and select the chat where you want to turn off read receipts.
Screenshot of an Instagram profile page
  1. Inside the chat, select the username on top of the screen. This will open the chat menu.
Screenshot of an Instagram chat
  1. Select Privacy & safety.
Screenshot of an Instagram user page
  1. On the Privacy & safety page, toggle the switch next to the Read receipts to turn them off.

That’s it, as long as this setting is off, the person in this particular chat won’t see the Seen notification when you read the messages they send you. This is a handy way to avoid people getting upset when you read their messages and don’t reply straight away.

Other Ways to Turn Off Read Receipts on Instagram

The only problem with this new feature is that you can only turn it on for each individual chat. This means that if you want to turn off Read Receipts on Instagram completely, you’ll have to go through each of your chats and toggle this option off. If you’re an active Instagram user, this process can get pretty tedious after you do it for the first few conversations.

If you want to avoid Instagram sending that Seen notification to more than one person on the app, here are a few other ways you can use to disable those Read Receipts.

Read Instagram Messages From Notification Panel

One of the easiest ways to read Instagram messages without the app sending the read receipt to the sender is via your smartphone’s notification panel. This is the only method that doesn’t require any other manipulations with the app at all.

Reading Instagram messages without triggering read receipts is a simple trick, and here’s how to do it using your notification panel.

Screenshot of phone notifications
  1. When you receive an Instagram message notification, resist the urge to click on it immediately. Opening the message directly activates the Seen receipt. If this is the only new notification you have, you may be able to read the whole message from the notification. If not, proceed to the next step.
Screenshot of Instagram notification on a smartphone
  1. Open the Instagram app and select the chat icon in the upper-right corner of the Home page.
  2. Refresh your Inbox. After you see the new messages appear on top of the screen, swipe down from the top of your phone screen to access the notification panel.
  3. Disconnect from the internet. You can do it by switching off Wi-Fi or your mobile data (or both).
  4. While the internet connection’s off, you can click on the Instagram message you want to read from the notification panel. This way the sender won’t receive the Seen notification (yet).

This method is simple but comes with one downside – it’s a temporary solution. Once you reconnect to the internet, the sender will receive the Seen notification and know that you’ve read their message.

Disable Instagram Notifications to Avoid Triggering Read Receipts

As we mentioned before, when you click on the Instagram message from the notifications panel with your internet connection on, the sender receives the Seen notification showing them you’ve read the message. One way to avoid doing that by accident is to turn off the Instagram message notifications completely.

To disable message notifications on your Instagram app, follow the steps below. The instructions are the same for both Android and iOS mobile apps.

  1. Open the Instagram app and select your profile icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  2. On your profile page, open the hamburger menu in the upper-right corner.
Screenshot of an Instagram profile - menu icon
  1. From this menu, select Settings.
  2. In the Settings menu, scroll down and select Notifications.

  1. In the Notifications section, select Messages and calls.
Screenshot of Instagram Notifications settings
  1. Find the Messages from individual and group chats section and select Off to turn off the notifications. You can also turn off the Message requests if you want to avoid sending read receipts to new followers as well.
Screenshot of Instagram settings of message requests

Now, message and message request notifications won’t interrupt your phone, reducing the risk of accidentally opening messages and triggering read receipts. You can keep your read status under control on Instagram with this straightforward method, or try one of the following techniques as well.

Use Airplane Mode to Read Instagram Messages Without Read Receipts

The next solution is to use Airplane Mode on your smartphone. You can temporarily dodge Instagram read receipts by using the Airplane Mode trick.

Before toggling the Airplane Mode on your phone, open the Instagram app to load messages but refrain from opening them. This method allows you to read messages discreetly, as read receipts won’t be triggered until you reconnect to the internet. This simple trick allows you to keep your Instagram reads incognito.

Here’s a quick step-by-step guide for iPhone and Android on how to turn on Airplane mode.

On iPhone:

Screenshot of iPhone Control Center
  • Swipe down from the top of your screen to access the Control Center.
  • Select the Airplane Mode button to disconnect from the internet.
  • Alternatively, you can go to Settings, toggle on Airplane Mode, and disable Wi-Fi.

On Android:

Screenshot of Android Notifications panel
  • Swipe down to open the notifications area.
  • Select the Airplane mode icon to activate it.
  • Ensure Wi-Fi is off by selecting the Wi-Fi button.

Disable Your Activity Status on Instagram

Another way to get rid of the read receipts for all chats is to turn off your Activity Status on Instagram. The app has a Show Activity Status option, and when this setting is on people you follow and anyone you message on the app will see when you were last active or if you’re currently active on Instagram.

You can turn your Activity status off at any time. In that case, people won’t be able to see whether you’re active on Instagram or not. Accidentally, this also turns off read receipts, but only for you. Meaning, that if the other person has their Activity Status on, they’ll still see read receipts and get the Seen notification when you read their messages.

However, if you know for sure that the person you’re messaging has their activity status off, then you can actively disable read receipts for both of you by turning your Activity Status off as well.

Here’s how you can disable your Activity Status on Instagram in a few easy steps.

  1. Open the Instagram app and go to your profile page.
  2. Open the hamburger menu in the top right corner, then select Settings.
  3. Scroll down to the How others can interact with you section. Select Messages and story replies.
Screenshot of Instagram settings of messages and story replies
  1. Under Who can see you’re online, select Show activity status.
  2. Switch the toggle next to Show Activity Status off to disable the feature.
Screenshot of Instagram settings for Activity Status

Now, your activity status won’t be visible, and other users won’t be notified when you’re active on Instagram. This ensures discreet messaging without revealing your online presence.

Restrict the Sender

One drastic measure you can take to keep your read receipts hidden is restricting the sender (temporarily) on Instagram.

Here’s how to keep the read receipts on Instagram off by restricting the sender.

  1. Open the Instagram app and navigate to the profile of the message sender.
  2. Select the three dots icon in the top right corner of the screen.
Screenshot of Instagram restricting user
  1. From the options menu, select Restrict.

Once the person’s restricted, check your Inbox. You’ll find the message you’re looking for in the Message Requests folder. Restricted users need your permission to send a DM. This way, you can read their messages without triggering read receipts.

If you want to reply to the message, go back to the sender’s profile and select Unrestrict from the options. This little manipulation ensures you control when read receipts are activated.

Keep Your Reads Under Wraps

These handy methods allow you to navigate your Instagram messages discreetly. Whether toggling airplane mode or managing notification settings, you can read messages at your convenience.

Think of it as maintaining your privacy and controlling the timing of your responses. Give these techniques a spin, and revel in a more relaxed Instagram experience without the worry of instant-read receipts.

The post How to Share Your Amazon Cart first appeared on Online Tech Tips.

Amazon cart sharing

Amazon is a great platform for finding last-minute gifts for your friends and loved ones. If you don’t know what kind of gift to get them, the easiest way is to get them an Amazon gift card. If that seems a little soulless for you, the next best thing may be asking them to share their Amazon cart with you, so you can pay for the goods they’ve already chosen.

Unfortunately, there’s no direct way to share your cart with someone else on Amazon. In this article, you’ll find all possible workarounds for sharing your Amazon shopping cart with someone else.

Share Your Amazon Cart by Sharing Your Account Credentials

Amazon doesn’t give you a direct way to share your Amazon cart with someone, and they do it for a reason.

Sharing your Amazon cart requires sharing your account credentials, but it comes with significant security considerations. If you want to share your Amazon cart with someone, you’ll need to give them your Amazon login info, like your username and password. But be careful – this method has some risks. When you share these details, the other person gets access to your whole Amazon account, not just your cart.

Screenshot from Amazon Sign In page

By sharing your login information, you provide someone else access to your personal data, order history, and payment details. It’s not as safe as other ways to share your cart because it gives too much access. If you still want to go ahead, make sure you trust the person you’re sharing with. But for a safer option, you might want to explore other ways like using Amazon’s official sharing features or creating a wishlist.

The Best Solution – Share Your Amazon Wish List

The ideal solution for sharing your Amazon finds without compromising your account security is through the Amazon Wish List feature. This isn’t just handy during the holiday season but proves invaluable for birthdays and special occasions where loved ones might want to gift you or your family.

Creating a Wish List is a breeze. When logged into your Amazon account on a browser, look for the Account & Lists section at the top. Hover over it, and you’ll find Your Lists, where you can create a new one. On the Amazon app, select the icon with three horizontal lines, find Lists, and create a new list.

Screenshot of Amazon wish list example

You can also craft a new list directly from a product page while browsing. Check the Add to List dropdown on the right side, pick an existing list, or create a new one. You can also instruct your Alexa device to whip up a new list for you.

The beauty of Wish Lists lies in their privacy – they’re exclusively yours until you decide to share. When you’re ready, open the wish list and hit the Invite button at the top of your list. You can then copy the link or opt for sharing through email or text message option to effortlessly share your curated list with friends and family. It keeps your preferences organized and ensures you don’t end up with duplicate gifts.

How to Use Share-A-Cart Amazon Browser Extension

Amazon’s Wish List feature is a handy way to quickly share a list of products from Amazon with another person. If for some reason that method doesn’t work for you, you can try the Share-A-Cart extension for Google Chrome to share your Amazon cart with other people.

The Share-A-Cart Amazon extension provides a seamless way to share your Amazon cart with another person. This browser extension is available for download for Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge. The process is uniform across all browsers: after you add the extension or add-on to your chosen browser, it’ll generate a unique code linked to your Amazon cart that can be shared through various platforms like iMessage, messages, email, and more.

Here’s a walkthrough for using the Google Chrome web browser extension, but you can follow the same steps for other browsers as well.

  1. Start by installing the Google Chrome Share-A-Cart extension from the Chrome Web Store.

  1. Then add the extension to Chrome.
  2. After you add the extension, head to Amazon.com and put the items you like into your cart.
  3. Once you’re happy with the contents of your cart, open Extensions in the upper-right corner of the screen by selecting the puzzle icon next to the address bar.
Screenshot of Google Chrome Extensions page
  1. Select the Share-A-Cart extension to open a little menu with options: Create Cart ID and Receive Cart.

  1. Opt for Create Cart ID if you want to share the contents of your Amazon cart with someone.
2. You’ll see your Amazon Cart ID with the sharing options underneath the code. You can choose to Copy Code and share it manually with someone, or choose Share to open more options.

  1. In the Share window, you can select more options to share your Cart ID with another person: by email, in Messages, through Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, WeChat, X (formerly Twitter), or via a generated QR code.

The recipient will receive the link granting them access to a third-party page where they can view the cart contents and decide whether to make the purchase. They will also need to install the same Share-A-Cart extension in their web browser to see their cart and be able to purchase the items from Amazon.

This method is most effective on a computer, offering a convenient and secure way to share your Amazon cart hassle-free.

How to Use Share-A-Cart App to Share Your Amazon Cart on iPhone, iPad, and Mac

Share-A-Cart is also available in the form of an application that you can download and use on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Here’s how to use the Share-A-Cart for Everything app on your device.

  1. Download and install the Share-A-Cart for Everything app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

  1. Open the Safari browser on your device.
  2. On your Mac, follow the path Preferences > Extensions to enable the Share-A-Cart extension.

  1. On iPhone or iPad, open Safari and select the puzzle icon on the left side of Safari’s address bar. From the menu, choose Manage Extensions and switch the toggle on next to the Share-A-Cart extension.

You’ll now find the Share-A-Cart option in the menu when you click on the puzzle icon in the Safari address bar.

Now that you have enabled the Share-A-Cart extension on your device, you can follow steps 3 through 8 from the previous section to create your Cart ID and share it with another person.

When the other person receives your Cart ID, they will also need to install the Share-A-Cart browser extension or app on their device, head to Amazon, and then open the extension menu and select Receive Cart. Then they’ll need to insert the relevant Cart ID and select Get Cart to proceed. The extension will fetch the items from the referenced cart and display the Amazon shopping cart page.

How to Fix Formula Parse Error in Google Sheets image

When you write a formula in apps like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, the last thing you expect to see is the Formula Parse Error message pop-up. Whether you’re an experienced user or completely new to using Google Sheets and formulas, you may come across this error.

In this tutorial, we’ll talk about what Google Sheet Formula Parse Error means, the most common types of formula parse errors, and how to fix them. We’ll go through the step-by-step instructions on how to fix these errors, as well as how to avoid them in the future.

What’s a Formula Parse Error in Google Sheets

First, let’s break down the terms:

  • Formula – Instructions entered into the function bar in Google Sheets.
  • Parse – Breaking down something into smaller parts to understand it better. It’s like reading a sentence word by word to grasp its meaning.
  • Error – A problem occurs when Google Sheets can’t comprehend or execute the requested function.

A formula parse error happens when Google Sheets can’t grasp your instructions. To fix this error, review your formula or function’s structure and wording. It happens when you write a formula, but the software doesn’t understand what you’re asking it to do. In other words, it’s like talking in a language the software doesn’t know.

This error occurs mainly because of two reasons: you might have made a mistake in the formula, like a spelling error, or the order of steps in the formula is confusing for the software.

To sum up, there are several reasons why you may be seeing a formula parse error in your Google Sheets document:

  • Missing input values. When required values for the formula are absent.
  • Out-of-bounds input. Such as inputting a negative number into a square root formula.
  • Mismatched data type input. When the data type doesn’t align with what the formula requires.
  • Invalid reference. Referring to a cell or range that doesn’t exist.
  • Misspelled function name. Incorrectly typing the name of a function.
  • Invalid numerical values. Providing improper or invalid numeric data.

Sometimes, the issue might be unidentifiable by Google Sheets. However, the platform generally tries to diagnose the cause of the formula parse error.

We’ll delve into each specific error, providing interpretations and solutions for each.

How to Fix Formula Parse Errors

Formula parse errors in Google Sheets almost always stem from formula syntax issues. Syntax refers to the rules defining a language’s structure. Use the checklist below to pinpoint the cause of your formula parse error:

  1. Check for syntax errors. Review your function for misspellings, typos, or incorrect syntaxes that might be present.
  1. Look for incomplete syntax. Ensure that your function contains all necessary elements like quotation marks, closing brackets, or parentheses. Additionally, check for operators placed together without appropriately separating characters like commas.
  1. Verify value types. Sometimes, a function requires a specific type of value (e.g., a number or text). If you input a number where text is expected, or vice versa, it could trigger a formula parse error.
  1. Confirm the order of operations. Check if you mixed up the order of operations. In complex functions with multiple mathematical operators, stick to Google Sheets’ order of operations: operations enclosed within parentheses, then exponential calculations, then multiplication and division (in their order of appearance), and addition and subtraction (in their order of appearance).

The Most Common Formula Parse Errors in Google Sheets

When you see a formula parse error warning message, it means Google Sheets can’t follow the instructions in your formula. These errors can vary, from simple mistakes like forgetting a comma to more complex issues like trying to do impossible math, such as dividing by zero.

Below you’ll find some examples of these errors so you can recognize and fix them in your formulas.

1. #N/A Error

#N/A Error image

What it means: This error arises from lookup functions, like VLOOKUP or INDEX, when the desired value is not available in the specified range. It doesn’t necessarily indicate an error but rather the absence of the sought-after information.

Encountering an #N/A error in Google Sheets can stem from various reasons, like missing values in a selected range, or missing input values. When you hover your cursor over the cell containing the error, you’ll see a message where Google Sheets gives you more details of what caused it. After you identify the part causing the problem, the error becomes easy to fix.

How to fix it: This error message tells you that the value you’re looking for is unavailable. This is most common when you’re using lookup functions like VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, QUERY, INDEX, or MATCH.

To fix it, use the IFERROR function by wrapping your formula in the IFERROR function to get a custom message or value when the data you want is not found.

2. #DIV/0! Error

#DIV/0! Error image

What it means: There are two reasons why you might get a #DIV/0! error. It appears when you attempt to divide a value by zero (which can occur when you have a zero or a blank cell reference in the denominator), an invalid mathematical operation, or when you try to divide with a blank space. Depending on the error message you see, you’ll understand the context you need to correct your formula.

To tackle this type of error, use the IFERROR function to specify an alternate output when division by zero occurs.

How to fix it: Wrap your Google Sheets formula with the IFERROR function to handle instances where division by zero happens, displaying a specific message or value instead.

3. #NUM! Error

#NUM! Error image

What it means: This error signifies that Google Sheets cannot compute or display the requested value, often due to excessively large calculations or instances where the requested results surpass available data.

Simply speaking, this error occurs when your formula contains an invalid number. This number might be too large to be displayed within the scope of Google Sheets, or this number may be invalid because it’s not the type of number the syntax calls for (for example, you put a decimal number in a place where a whole number is required). One classic example is trying to find the square root of a negative number, which isn’t allowed.

When hovering over the cell containing the error, you’ll see a message that provides you with the location of the number that can’t be displayed correctly.

How to fix it: Check the formula for problematic calculations causing the error. This might include situations with extremely large numbers or requesting more items than are present in the dataset.

4. #NAME? Error

#NAME? Error image

What it means: This error appears when referencing an unrecognized named entity, such as misspelling a built-in function or using a nonexistent named range. The error refers to an invalid name that exists somewhere in your formula. Maybe you’ve tried to reference a cell range named “tech tips” by typing “tech tip” – that would cause this error to appear.

You’ll also get the same name error if you miss quotation marks (or double quotes) by mistake. These errors don’t always give you additional context, so you’ll have to thoroughly check your formula to find the place where you’ve made a mistake.

How to fix it: Review your formula for any incorrectly spelled names or incorrect usage of named objects.

5. #REF! Error

#REF! Error image

What it means: This error results from invalid references, like deleted cells or named ranges used in your formula. It may also occur due to circular references or when copying formulas with relative references. Here’s an example of making an invalid cell reference: when you referenced a cell range of B2:F2 in your SUM function, but you deleted your original column C, making your SUM function appear in column F. In this case, Google Sheets will throw a #REF! error to let you know it doesn’t have a valid reference.

You’ll also get a #REF! error when a circular dependency is detected (when the formula refers to itself).

The reference error message normally contains more information that you can use to adjust your function to include the correct cell reference and fix the error.

How to fix it: Edit the formula to replace invalid references with valid ones or rectify circular reference issues.

6. #VALUE! Error

#VALUE! Error image

What it means: This type of error message occurs when the provided data type in the formula doesn’t match the expected data type. You’ll see this error in your Google Sheets formula when this formula contains the wrong type of value. For example, if you used a multiplication operation on one cell with a number and another cell with text. The operation expects both cells to hold numbers, resulting in a #VALUE error.

Hover over the red arrow to see the error message which will specify which parameter of the formula caused the mismatch.

How to fix it: Click on the cell with the error to view the complete message, identify the parameter causing the data type mismatch, and fix it. Understanding and rectifying these common errors in Google Sheets can improve your formula accuracy and ensure effective spreadsheet functionality.

7. #ERROR! Error

#ERROR! Error image

What it means: This error arises when Google Sheets cannot interpret your formula due to an unexpected typo or an extra/missing character. For instance, omitting quotation marks around text values or using an incorrect operator sequence can trigger this error.

This error doesn’t provide you with any information. When you click on the red arrow in your problematic cell, it will simply say Formula parse error.

How to fix it: To resolve this error, carefully check your formula for any missing or superfluous characters, including spaces, punctuation, or alphanumeric elements. Rectify any inaccuracies, such as missing quotation marks, to resolve this error.

Tips on How to Avoid Formula Parse Errors

By employing the following practices, you can minimize formula parse errors and streamline your experience while working in Google Sheets.

1. Check and Review

The most common reason for formula parse errors is typographical mistakes in the formula. To reduce these errors, ensure accuracy in your syntax and numerical inputs.

2. International Considerations

For international Google Sheets, keep an eye on regional differences. Some versions may use semi-colons (;) instead of commas (,). Be mindful of this distinction when copying and pasting formulas between sheets from different locales.

3. Cell Highlighting

Double-clicking a cell containing an error-ridden formula will highlight the problematic segments in red. This highlighting feature is a quick visual cue that can help pinpoint where the formula needs correction.

4. Using Formula Suggestions and Help

Google Sheets provides built-in assistance for functions and formulas. Take advantage of this support by accessing formula suggestions and help. It offers guidance on syntax, expected value types, usage examples, and additional resources to enhance your understanding.

5. IFERROR Function for Custom Messages

Certain errors like #N/A or #DIV/0! might occur in specific scenarios. You can employ the IFERROR function to customize the message displayed when such errors arise, allowing for clearer communication within your spreadsheet.

6. Using Formula Help

When working with built-in functions in Google Sheets, leverage the available formula help. Access instructions, syntax suggestions, expected value types, examples, and additional guidance by double-clicking within the function or clicking on the vertical ellipsis in the bottom-right corner.

No More Formula Parse Errors in Google Sheets

Now that you know what formula parse errors look like and what they mean, you can successfully avoid them in your formulas and enjoy using Google Sheets without the headache of fixing these errors.

Finding new ways to safeguard your online privacy has become crucial in today’s digital era. Meta, the parent company of Instagram, recently introduced a major update to its Accounts Center.

Now, you have the power to halt Instagram’s tracking practices on various websites beyond the app itself. This new ability to change settings in the Account Center allows users to foil third-party tracking methods typically employed for personalized ad targeting on the platform.

If you’re not a fan of Instagram and Facebook monitoring your activities across social media apps and websites, you need to learn how to use this update. Follow this article to find out how to stop Instagram and Facebook from tracking your online activity.

New Meta Feature in a Nutshell

Meta recently introduced a fresh privacy tool known as Activity Off-Meta Technologies. It aims to give users control over shared data with the company through apps and websites.

New Meta Feature in a Nutshell image

Meta changed how Accounts Center works. Allegations of invasive data tracking practices, where user online activities were tracked and utilized for targeted advertising, have plagued the platform’s reputation.

Now, you can control tracking from both Facebook and Instagram. Before, you could only manage it for Facebook. But now, by using a new feature called Activity Off-Meta Technologies, you can stop tracking your online activity on both platforms.

With this tool, you can check which businesses share your info with Meta. You decide what activity they can track, and you can stop certain businesses from sharing your data.

You can also stop all businesses from sending your info. This stops Instagram from using your activity to show you ads. For instance, if you check out a product online on Amazon, you won’t see ads for it on the Instagram app.

Stopping Instagram tracking on other apps is quick, but finding the settings might take a while. Here’s a quick guide to help you find them faster.

How to Stop Instagram from Tracking Your Online Activity

Before you can tweak your off-Meta technologies settings, you need to access your Accounts Center in the Instagram app.

How to Stop Instagram from Tracking Your Online Activity image

Here’s how to find the Accounts Center in your Instagram account. The instructions are the same for both iOS and Android users, so both Android and Apple iPhone users can follow the steps below to find the Accounts Center on Instagram.

  1. Launch the Instagram app and select your profile icon at the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  2. Then, select the three-line settings icon at the top-right corner.
  3. Select Settings and privacy.

  1. Under Your account select Accounts Center.
How to Stop Instagram from Tracking Your Online Activity image 3

Once you’ve found the Accounts Center, you can access the off Meta technologies settings by following the path Your information and permissions > Your activity off Meta technologies.

How to Stop Instagram from Tracking Your Online Activity image 4

From the Your activity off Meta technologies page, you can stop Instagram from tracking your activity online, as well as other apps and sites. To do that, follow the steps below.

  1. On the Your activity off Meta technologies page, select Manage future activity.

  1. Select Disconnect future activity.

  1. Read the information provided on the What you should know page, then select Disconnect future activity.

Meta is obligated by law to disclose how it uses your personal information, including the impact of adjusting your settings.

Here are a few things you need to keep in mind about what’s going to happen when you disconnect future activity via the Accounts Center:

  • Disconnecting future activity will affect all linked accounts in the Accounts Center.
  • Complete disconnection of tracking may take up to 48 hours.
  • Logging out of apps and websites linked to Facebook might occur.
  • Disconnecting future activity can also detach your Instagram from other apps.
  • Although Meta will still collect data from various apps and sites, it won’t be linked to your account.
  • You’ll see the same number of ads on Instagram, but they won’t be personalized anymore.

It’s important to note that Instagram will continue to receive activity data from apps and websites, but whether it’s the entire dataset remains unclear. Meta’s wording suggests the data it receives is anonymous.

If you prefer to alter the types of ads displayed, you can adjust your Instagram ad preferences instead in your account settings. To do that, follow the path Instagram profile page > Settings > Ads > Ad Interests. There you can change your ad interests and choose which types of ads you’d like to see more (and less) on Instagram.

How to Stop Facebook from Tracking Your Online Activity

If your Facebook account is linked to your Instagram account, then disconnecting future activity will apply to it as well and you don’t have to do anything else to stop Facebook from tracking you.

However, if you didn’t link your Facebook account with your Instagram account, you need to disconnect it separately. To do that, follow the steps below.

  1. Open Facebook on your device.
  2. Go to your Facebook profile and select the three dots icon in the top right corner to open Menu.
  3. Select Settings & Privacy, then select Settings.

  1. Select Your activity off Meta technologies on the right.

  1. Here you can choose to disconnect a specific activity to prevent a specific app or website from tracking you online. To do that, select Disconnect specific activity or Recent Activity.
  2. To prevent Facebook from tracking your activity on other apps and websites, select Manage future activity.

  1. In the new window, select Disconnect future activity. Then select Continue to confirm.
  2. Read the information on the What you should know page and select Disconnect future activity at the bottom of the screen.

That’s it. Now both Facebook and Instagram apps shouldn’t be able to track you via their in-app browsers and other tools.

Tips to Improve Your Online Privacy on Facebook & Instagram

Meta Accounts Center is fairly new, and there’s no telling how well these tools will work in terms of helping you maintain your online privacy. We recommend taking the following extra steps to protect your online activity and stay safe while browsing the web.

Adjust Ad Preferences

On Facebook, navigate to the Settings menu, select Ads, and then select Ad Settings. Here, you can review and modify your ad preferences, including the information used to show you ads.

Similarly, on Instagram, access the Settings menu, tap on Security, then Access Data, and finally Ads. Adjust the preferences related to ad targeting based on your preferences.

Limit Data Collection

Both platforms have tools that allow you to control the data collected about your online behavior. In Facebook’s settings, explore the Your Facebook Information section, and review what data the platform collects and accesses. You can adjust these settings as per your comfort level.

On Instagram, within the Privacy and Security settings, you’ll find options to manage data collection. Review and limit the information Instagram collects to enhance your privacy.

Use Private Browsing Modes

Consider using private browsing or Incognito modes on your web browser when accessing these platforms. This prevents them from tracking your activity outside their applications.

Review Third-Party App Permissions

Both Instagram and Facebook allow third-party apps to access certain information from your profile. Regularly review and revoke access for apps that you no longer use or don’t need to access your social media data.

Opt-Out of Personalized Ads

You can opt out of personalized ads served by Facebook and Instagram. It’s best to adjust your ad settings in your account preferences to limit targeted ads.

Avoid Clicking on Advertisements

Refrain from engaging with advertisements that you believe might be used for tracking purposes. Interacting with certain ads can result in increased tracking activities.

Keep Your Apps Updated

Ensure that both your Instagram and Facebook apps are regularly updated. Developers often release updates that include enhanced privacy features and security fixes.

Use Privacy-Focused Browsers or Extensions

Consider using privacy-focused web browsers or browser extensions that help block tracking scripts and protect your online activity.

By taking these steps, you can significantly reduce the extent to which Instagram and Facebook track your online behavior. However, it’s important to note that complete avoidance of tracking may not be possible even with the new features in place, as these platforms heavily rely on user data for their functionality and services.

Remember, maintaining a balance between privacy and convenience is crucial in today’s interconnected digital landscape.

Take Control Over Instagram and Facebook Tracking

The new disconnect features allow you to control how Facebook and Instagram exchange your data with businesses. You can finally use it as a way to get rid of off-site tracking and prevent further personalization of the advertising you’re seeing online.

The age-old debate between iPhone and Android users continues to stir discussions among smartphone enthusiasts. The choice between these two giants in the smartphone industry isn’t always easy to make.

Both platforms have unique features and capabilities, catering to different preferences and needs. Let’s delve into an in-depth comparison of iPhone and Android devices across various aspects to help you make an informed decision and choose which smartphone is better for you.

iPhone vs. Android: Which Is Better For You? image 2

iPhone vs Android: How They Compare

Both iPhones and Android phones have their unique strengths, so you need to decide which advantages are more important to you.

iPhone strengths:

  • Apple’s iPhones work seamlessly with other Apple devices like Macs, iPads, and Apple Watches. This makes sharing and transferring data between gadgets super easy.
  • Apps on iPhones are usually top-notch and run smoothly. There’s also a wide variety of accessories available in stores for iPhones.
  • iPhones get updates quickly, and when you start using one, there’s not a lot of extra stuff already installed on it.

Android strengths:

  • Android phones come in different price ranges, offering more choices to fit various budgets. They also come in various sizes and offer different features.
  • For people who like to personalize their phones a lot, Android offers more options for changing how things look and operate on the screen.
  • Some Android phones let you add more storage with a memory card, which can be handy. Plus, Android phones use a charging port that’s common on many other devices, while iPhones are only starting to use USB-C ports on the iPhone 15 series (iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max).

Overall, iPhones work well for those who already have Apple gadgets, offering a smooth app experience and quick updates.

On the flip side, Android phones provide more options in terms of pricing, size, and customization. They also offer flexibility with storage where you can use a microSD card to keep photos, apps, and other media and use a universal charging port. Each has its strengths, so the choice depends on what matters most to you.

Ease of Use

When it comes to ease of use, iPhones tend to have a simpler and more straightforward user interface, and iPhone users love them for it. These phones are designed to be intuitive, making it easier for people who aren’t very tech-savvy to navigate. Apple has its own ecosystem and its software is consistent across their devices, so if you know how to use one Apple product, using another becomes a breeze.

Ease of Use image 2

Android phones, on the other hand, offer more customization and flexibility, which might mean a bit more complexity. However, recent versions of Android have made strides in simplifying things. The interface can sometimes vary depending on the brand of Android phone you choose, but many are becoming more user-friendly with straightforward menus and settings.

Ultimately, the choice between iPhone and Android regarding ease of use might come down to personal preference. If simplicity and a more uniform user experience are crucial, an iPhone might be the better pick. But if you enjoy tweaking settings to match your preferences precisely, Android offers more room for customization, albeit with a slightly steeper learning curve for some users.

Hardware

The difference in hardware between the iPhone and Android is on the surface. iPhones, made solely by Apple, come in a limited number of models, granting Apple control over how the software and hardware function together. Meanwhile, Android software is available to various phone manufacturers, leading to a range of Android devices from different manufacturers like Samsung, HTC, Motorola. This variety means Android phones differ in size, weight, features, and overall quality.

Hardware image 3

While some high-end Android phones like the latest Google Pixel or Samsung Galaxy Ultra model match the iPhone in quality, there are also more affordable Android options with fewer features that might suit your needs just fine. When choosing an iPhone, you pick a model from Apple. However, with Android, you not only decide on a brand but also choose a specific model, offering a broader selection.

There may be a feature that you won’t find on a new iPhone but can find on some Android phones. One example of that is a headphone jack – a feature that Apple stopped adding to their smartphones back in 2016.

Hardware image 4

Some people may appreciate the wide array of choices with Android, while others prefer the simplicity and quality assurance that come with Apple’s iPhones.

Operating Systems

Operating systems form the heart of smartphones, and both iOS and Android operating system have their advantages.

iPhones operate on Apple’s iOS, while Android phones run on Google’s Android operating system. Both systems have a familiar layout with popular apps on the home screen, including utilities, games, a phone app, camera functions, and messaging capabilities. They rely on touch interfaces and may include hardware features like accelerometers or gyroscopes for added functionalities.

Operating Systems image 5

Apple launches a fresh iOS version nearly every autumn, frequently introducing additional software updates including security updates throughout the year. In contrast, Android updates used to be less regular in earlier years, with version 2.0 debuting in 2009 and versions 3 and 4 following in 2011. Recently, Android has adopted a more annual update schedule. However, some Android manufacturers, like Samsung, tweak the operating system slightly for their devices.

Notably, some Android device makers delay or entirely skip updating their phones to the latest Android OS. This can leave older phones without the latest OS support. Comparatively, Apple’s support for older iPhones tends to be better than Android’s due to the platform’s openness to multiple manufacturers. This aspect ensures iPhones often receive updates for a longer duration compared to many Android phones.

Operating Systems image 6

When it comes to getting and managing notifications, the iPhone allows you to reply directly within notifications without opening the app, a feature not available on Android. However, Android offers the ability to designate certain notifications as “priority,” ensuring they appear at the top of the list while minimizing less crucial messages. Additionally, clearing notifications on Android is simpler with just a single swipe compared to the iPhone.

Operating Systems image 7

One feature that made Android smartphones stand out was the use of dynamic widgets and home screen launchers. However, iPhones eventually caught up with Android and now offer them as well.

Dynamic widgets are small, interactive elements on your phone’s home screen that display real-time information without requiring you to open an app. Both iPhone and Android offer their own versions of widgets, although they operate a bit differently.

Operating Systems image 8

In iPhones running on iOS, widgets were introduced with iOS 14. These widgets are available in various sizes and can display information from compatible apps, such as weather updates, calendar events, news headlines, or fitness progress. Users can customize their home screens by arranging and resizing widgets according to their preferences. However, these widgets are static and don’t update in real-time; instead, they refresh their information periodically or when you open the associated app.

Overall, while both iPhone and Android devices offer widgets that enhance the home screen experience, Android’s widgets are typically more dynamic, providing real-time updates and greater customization options. iOS widgets, although useful, are more limited in their real-time updating capabilities and customization options.

Security

Security is a critical concern for smartphone users, and when it comes to comparing the safety measures of iPhone and Android devices, there are notable differences.

Both operating systems offer encryption to keep your data safe whether it’s stored or being sent. Also, the majority of iOS and Android devices have secure user authentication methods, like using facial recognition or fingerprint scans.

For iPhone users, security measures are robust due to several key factors. Apple prioritizes end-to-end encryption in its apps, ensuring that data, such as messages, remains scrambled throughout its journey between sender and recipient. This level of encryption minimizes the risk of interception or unauthorized access to sensitive information.

Security image 2

On the other hand, Android typically employs encryption “in transit,” which secures data while it’s moving but might leave it vulnerable at certain points, such as passing through Google servers.

Apple also maintains strict control over app downloads through the Apple App Store, the exclusive source for iPhone apps. This approach significantly reduces the risk of malware infiltration, as Apple rigorously screens and filters apps to prevent malicious software from being available to users. In contrast, Android’s open ecosystem and wider availability of third-party apps and open-source apps can expose devices to potential security threats, making them more susceptible to malware attacks.

While both iPhone and Android devices are susceptible to security threats, the iPhone’s closed ecosystem and stringent measures make it harder for attackers to target iOS users compared to Android users.

Apps

When it comes to the iPhone, apps are exclusively accessible through Apple’s App Store, boasting an extensive collection of over 2 million iOS apps. Apple maintains stringent standards for app inclusion, prioritizing quality and security. This strict oversight reduces the risk of encountering malware within the store, ensuring a higher level of safety for users. Additionally, Apple rigorously tests apps to guarantee compatibility with its devices, providing a more seamless experience.

On the other hand, Android offers its apps through the Google Play Store as well as third-party sources, amassing a larger repository of nearly 3 million apps.

Apps image 3

Google’s more lenient standards enable a wider range of app availability, but this openness also increases the likelihood of encountering potentially risky software. The multitude of Android device manufacturers combined with the less stringent screening in the Google Play Store might lead to compatibility issues, where certain apps may not function optimally across all Android devices.

Despite the smaller selection in the Apple App Store compared to Google Play, Apple’s strict curation offers a safer and more consistent user experience. The broader selection and the ability to download Android apps from outside the official store might attract users seeking greater flexibility and options. But there’s also a question of bloatware.

When you get a new iPhone, no matter where you buy it or which model you choose, you won’t find any extra apps already installed. That means your iOS device starts clean without any apps you didn’t ask for slowing it down.

But if you buy a new Android phone, especially from a certain carrier, you might find some apps already there, like CNN or DirecTV Now. Even if you spend a lot on a fancy Android phone, sometimes these unwanted apps still come with it.

Apps image 4

Some unlocked phones, usually the ones considered the best Android phones, like Google Pixel, don’t have these extra apps, but others might have stuff you didn’t ask for, like ads or sponsored software. Examples of this are OnePlus phones and some Samsung phones that bother users with ads and trending apps.

Device Integration

Apple’s system of devices, like iPhones, Macs, Apple Watches, and Apple TVs, smoothly connect and work together. This connection is not as strong among various Android gadgets, especially if they’re made by different companies.

Many people use more than just a phone, such as a tablet or a computer. Apple’s tightly integrated ecosystem makes it easier for these devices to work together seamlessly. Since Apple produces multiple devices like computers, tablets, watches, and phones, it offers unique features that Android may lack.

Device Integration image 2

For instance, your iPhone can act as a remote control for an Apple TV. Also, you can unlock your MacBook or iPhone using an Apple Watch. Apple services like AirDrop (which uses Bluetooth to share files from the iPhone to any Apple device), FaceTime, iMessage, and iCloud storage allow quick file sharing between an iPhone, Mac, or iPad without using emails. With Apple’s continuity features, you can begin watching something on Apple TV and then continue from where you stopped on your iPhone.

Google’s services, such as Gmail, Google Maps, and Google Now, function on all Android gadgets. However, unless all your devices—like your watch, tablet, phone, and computer—are from the same manufacturer (which is rare), Android doesn’t provide a unified experience across different devices. Google and Microsoft (as well as other Android developers) also offer Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, and other cloud-based storage apps, but the integration is still lacking.

Virtual Assistants

In the realm of artificial intelligence and voice assistance, Android holds a distinct advantage.

Siri, Apple’s default intelligent assistant, continues to progress with each iOS update. Yet, compared to Google Assistant, Siri has limitations in performing intricate tasks. Google Assistant, a standout feature on Android devices, leverages Google’s extensive database to streamline daily life. For instance, it can remind you to leave early for an appointment if it detects heavy traffic based on your Google Calendar entries.

Virtual Assistants image 2

While Siri offers convenience on iPhones, its capabilities don’t match the advanced functionalities of Google Assistant. Yes, iPhone users can switch to Google Assistant if they prefer, but Android users do not have access to Siri without an Apple device.

Maintenance

Overall, iPhone devices are less user-serviceable compared to Android phones.

Apple’s emphasis on simplicity means tasks like upgrading storage or replacing the battery require professional assistance.

In contrast, many Android models offer users the flexibility to replace batteries to improve battery life and expand storage independently. While Android might lack the iPhone’s elegance, its DIY-friendly approach can save costs on repairs and provide more control over maintenance tasks like battery replacement and storage expansion.

Price

iPhones typically come with a higher price tag, starting around $500 and reaching up to $1,500 or more depending on the specs and screen size – for example, you can get an iPhone SE 2022 for just over $400 and it’s still a phenomenal example of an iPhone.

Price image 3

Apple positions its devices as premium, reflected in their cost. On the other hand, Android phones offer a broader spectrum, ranging from around $100 to as high as $1,750. There are cheap phones under $200 that may compromise on certain features, but there are also some of the best big and small phones, as well as phablets and foldables that exceed $1,000.

Price image 4

Fortunately, various payment plans provided by Apple, Google, and online retailers like Amazon make higher-end phones more accessible. This flexibility makes the price less of a deciding factor when choosing between an iPhone or an Android device.

iPhone vs Android: Which is Better for You?

Choosing between an iPhone and an Android device mostly depends on personal preferences. iPhones excel in seamless integration, security, and regular updates. Meanwhile, Android offers diverse options and customization.

Before making the decision, consider your own needs and how you’re going to use this smartphone. Whether it’s the simplicity of an iPhone or the flexibility of Android that matters most to you, it’s all about picking what feels best for you.

The TopDon TC004 thermal imaging camera powers on with the TCView logo displayed.

The Settings menu is easily accessible from the main screen and you can see all the options available in the Menu interface.

I was also pleasantly surprised by the variety of the language options. I checked a variety of languages, and the interface translated seamlessly into all of them, even some of the more difficult ones for translation like Russian.

Navigating the camera’s interface is straightforward, with an easy-to-use trigger system. A simple squeeze captures a photo, while a prolonged hold initiates video recording. The trigger’s action is satisfying, complemented by other responsive UI buttons that contribute to an overall smooth user experience.

There are also plenty of customizable options which enhance the camera’s adaptability. You have the flexibility to modify color schemes for the thermal images and tailor the visuals to suit your preferences.

When delving into the camera’s performance, it offers an incredible insight into temperature variations. For instance, I was measuring the temperature of the different parts of my car wheels before and after driving, and you can see the red crosshairs showing the hottest spot, while the green identifies the coldest. The hottest element is also shown in white color.

We tried measuring the temperature of various items and mechanical parts inside and outside the house, and the TC004 captured the thermal dynamics accurately. The display showed the areas emitting heat correctly.

The TopDon TC004 camera is also capable of video recording in .h264 format, and can capture dynamic thermal shifts effectively. You can then play the videos on the TC004, or transfer them to your PC computer.

Connectivity-wise, the TC004 seamlessly integrates with your PC for comprehensive analysis. You can connect the camera to your computer and continue using it to see the results on your PC monitor.

To sum up, the TC004 impresses with its ability to produce high resolution JPG images, H264 videos, and proprietary .irg files – a diverse set of data formats available for your analysis. Additionally, the built-in torch and tripod port are there to enhance usability, especially in dimly lit environments. All of that makes the TC004 a versatile and practical tool (and not just an expensive toy) for a range of thermal imaging applications.

Software

The dedicated software for managing the TopDon TC004 thermal imaging camera is currently available exclusively for Windows users and is named TD View. During the installation process, you may encounter a startup display in Chinese, but as soon as you change it to English the interface will make sense.

The software’s functionality is straightforward and intuitive. Find a folder with your thermal images and open a gallery with all of your thermal captures.

TC View proved to have a limited set of functions, but if you only need to read and manipulate the unique .irg files generated by the TC004 thermal imaging camera, the app will do the job.

Battery Life

The TopDon TC004 thermal imaging camera comes with a built-in 5000 mAh lithium battery, ensuring extended usage without the constant need for recharging.

The 5000 mAh lithium battery is a high-capacity and a sizable battery that runs for up to 12 hours on a single charge. So you don’t have to worry about your device powering off in the middle of your running tasks.

Should You Buy the TopDon TC004 Thermal Imaging Camera?

If you’re in the market for a powerful thermal imaging tool, the TopDon TC004 thermal imaging camera should undoubtedly be on your radar. With its impressive temperature range and advanced features, this device stands as a compelling choice for both professional and amateur users.

The TC004 is suitable for both amateur and professional users, but if you feel the TC004 is lacking some functionality, check out the TopDon TC005 which also features a 2 megapixel visible light camera on top of all the features present in the TC004.

Why Update TikTok on Your Devices

Bug fixes are a big deal. Updating TikTok means tackling technical glitches like crashes that might be causing a less-than-optimal experience.

TikTok keeps adding new features like updated filters, stickers, effects, and other trending TikTok video editing tools. The latest app version often translates to smoother performance. Let us guide you through the process.

How to Update TikTok App on Android

If your Android device doesn’t install automatic updates for your social media mobile apps like TikTok, you must use the Google Play Store. Before you begin, check that your phone is connected to Wi-Fi and that you have a strong internet connection.

  1. On your smartphone, open the Play Store app.

  1. On your device, open the App Store.
  2. In the App Store, select your profile picture in the top right corner and swipe down on the page to refresh it. Find TikTok in the Upcoming Automatic Updates list, select Update to install the update immediately.

Your device will now download and install the latest updates. When it’s finished, open TikTok to use the latest app version.

What if You Can’t Update TikTok?

Ensuring TikTok is up-to-date is critical to unlocking its full potential with the latest features and fewer app bugs. If you’re encountering update issues, this could be a minor glitch, internet connectivity hiccups, or storage overload.

Sometimes, a quick reboot, switching between mobile data and Wi-Fi, restarting your router or modem, and clearing your device’s storage space can fix most update issues.

Cool camping gadgets can make your camping trip even more fun. We’ve made a list of the best smart camping gadgets you should take next time you venture into the great outdoors. These gadgets mix nature with smart stuff, making camping safer and much more comfortable. We tried to cover the best camping gadgets out there, from clever cooking gear and portable AC to a tiny cam to help you capture the best moments of the trip.

Outdoor camping with fire and tent

The Must-Have Smart Camping Gadgets For Your Next Adventure

Whether you’re a seasoned camper or just dipping your toes into outdoorsy activities, you probably already know that a comfortable camping trip needs more than just a water bottle and a sleeping bag.

At the very least, you want to bring some comfortable camping chairs to sit around the fire pit, a camping stove for cooking, and maybe even a coffee maker. Some other essentials include a headlamp, a first aid kit, a pocket knife, and a power bank to keep your cell phone alive.

Check out the following smart gadgets that will make your next camping trip even more fun.

1. FirePit+ by BioLite

BioLite firepit

Imagine the joy of gathering around a crackling campfire amid nature’s beauty. Don’t want to struggle with igniting the fire and dealing with its aftermath? Then, the BioLite FirePit+ is the must-have camping gadget for you!

BioLite, a brand focused on off-grid solutions, created a FirePit+ – a portable gadget to help you turn any place into a campfire. FirePit+ is a battery-powered grill/BBQ/fire pit device that offers a traditional campfire’s warmth, aroma, and ambiance without the usual hassles of fanning flames and smoke-filled faces.

portable fire pit

This portable fire pit has a built-in fan system that overcomes the typical firestarter challenges and helps to keep your campfire almost smokeless. You can use charcoal and wood; the fan will help you start the fire, so you don’t have to deal with hazardous fire-starting liquids or paper.

cooking food on fire pit

You can use the free BioLite app to control the fan and your fire, but that’s not the end. The 12,800mAh USB rechargeable power pack can also charge your devices if your phone’s battery is running low.

The FirePit+ is a perfect camping device that will help you cook your food comfortably during outdoor adventures and create an ideal atmosphere when the sun goes down. If you want something more portable and practical, check out the BioLite CampStove 2+ portable camping stove.

Price: from $224.98 for the FirePit+ only or $348.71 for the FirePit Essentials kit with a durable carrying bag, protective ground mat, and a stainless steel fire poker.

2. Tiny Repel Mosquito Repellent by FLEXTAIL Gear

mosquito repellant

Mosquitoes and horse flies can ruin any camping adventure. That’s why a mosquito repellent should be #1 on your outdoor gear list. But what if we told you that you can get a smart mosquito repellent gadget that also functions as a lantern and a power bank?

Flextail created Tiny Repel – a 3-in-1 solution to repel mosquitoes, as well as charge your gadgets and bring light into your campsite. It is designed with a rechargeable battery and accommodates two repellent mats for heightened mosquito protection. To activate the mats, you simply need to turn the gadget on. It takes about two minutes before you feel the differences and see the mosquitos disappear.

Tiny Repel has a camping mode — where it forms a 10-foot safeguard around you by heating the repellant mats to 110℃, which can last for 10 hours, and an outdoor mode for broader area coverage, which lasts for about 7 hours on a full battery charge.

The basic kit comes with ten repellent mats, enough for five nights if you use two each night, but you can buy more separately on the website.

tiny repel light

The repellent works very well inside the tent or when there’s no strong wind outside. It’s not as effective with horseflies as with mosquitos, but it’ll make your life easier.

Tiny Repel has a built-in 4800mAh battery and a USB-C port, which allows you to charge your gadgets. With a double press on the button, you can activate the lantern function and use one of the four modes available: 50, 100, 200, and 400 lumens.

It’s fantastic that Flextail thought of many ways to place the Tiny Repel near your campsite. There’s a carabiner hook on top of the gadget to hang it near your hammock, a magnet on the bottom, and a little tripod that you can get as an add-on if you need to place it above the ground.

Price: from $49.99 on the FLEXTAIL Gear website and $46.98 on Amazon.

3. BLUETTI AC60 Portable Power Station

portable power station

Our next pick may seem to belong in a guide about off-grid living rather than camping gear, but we’re here to prove you wrong. A portable power station is a lifesaver on any camping trip, as it can make your stay much more comfortable and safe thanks to the ability to charge your gadgets and maintain your connection with the outside world.

The Bluetti AC60 is a perfect candidate for a power station to throw into your car before your next adventure.

front of portable power station

The AC60 model makes for an excellent companion on your adventurous escapades or remote camping trips due to its compact design, substantial power output, and the option to expand from 400Wh to a remarkable 2000Wh (with the addition of a second battery). On top of that, the AC60 is TP65 splashproof, which means it can withstand light rain, and you don’t have to worry about spilling liquids on it.

If you’re going on a prolonged camping trip, you can also bring a solar panel. The AC60 has a total solar input capacity of 200W and can be fully charged using solar energy in just a few hours.

The AC60 measures a modest 29 x 20.5 x 23.4cm and features a foldable handle, making it easy to pack and bring. It weighs about 18.9 lbs, which isn’t ultralight. You can easily carry it to and from your car, but probably not much further, especially if you bring more things on your trip. So it’s more suitable for car camping than wild backcountry adventures.

charging devices from power station

The station’s total capacity is 403Wh, which is enough to charge your “communications” gadgets like smartphones, tablets, and laptops multiple times. A 100W device would last over 3 hours on charge using one of the USB ports. However, an AC device would drain the battery much quicker, so if you’re planning to charge any appliances like a cooking stove or an espresso machine, it’s best to have a solar panel with you or be ready to charge the power station from your car battery.

Another awesome feature that will improve your camping experience is a large LED panel light at the back of the unit. It’s a practical solution for needing light on a camping trip, and it’s bright enough to light your campsite at night. Make sure to activate the DC output before turning on the light.

Price: $699 on the Bluetti website and on Amazon.

4. Max Pump 2 Pro Air Pump by FLEXTAIL Gear

flextail gear

Max Pump 2 Pro is another multi-tool by Flextail Gear that made it onto our list of the best smart camping gear to bring to your next adventure. It’s compact, lightweight, serves multiple purposes, and has a great battery life.

If you plan to spend more than one night outdoors, you must have strong lungs or get an outdoor air pump that can pump up any inflatable air product in a minute.

This tiny gadget weighs only 5.6ox (160g), so you can easily carry it in your pocket. The pump comes with several nozzles, making it a versatile air pump compatible with most brands. You can inflate your camping mats, air bed, inflatables, and even a pack raft.

air pump

You can also use this mighty gadget to deflate your air products, which is sometimes a more tedious process than inflating them. Mac Pump 2 Pro is also compatible with vacuum bags, which is another way to save space while camping or traveling.

The pump features a built-in rechargeable 3600mAh lithium battery charged via a USB-C cable. A single full charge empowers you to inflate and deflate a pack raft for up to 10 cycles. The IP55 water-resistant rating means you can use your pump in damp conditions without worrying about spilling liquid.

Aside from inflating and deflating, the Max Pump 2 Pro can be a source of light. Depending on your mode, you can get from 50 to 400 lumens out of it and up to 12 hours of light at the maximum brightness setting.

Finally, this multi-tool can be used as an emergency charger for your smartphone — a nifty feature for iPhone lovers.

Price: $42.99 on the FLEXTAIL Gear website and $46.98 on Amazon.

5. TREBLAB HD77 Portable Bluetooth Speaker

Treblab portable speaker

Everything’s better with music, and camping is no exception. For those looking for an affordable portable Bluetooth speaker, we recommend looking at HD77 model by Treblab.

The HD77 is a small, well-built portable Bluetooth speaker, perfect for your next outdoor adventure. It’s compact and has a removable carrying strap and a carabiner clip, so you can easily attach the speaker to your bag and take it wherever you go.

bluetooth speaker portable

The design and build of this speaker will remind you of the JBL’s Flip series, such as the JBL Flip 5 and Flip 6. The HD77 is also rated IPX6 for water resistance, ensuring it can withstand direct contact with water for up to three minutes. This feature gives you peace of mind when you use it outdoors, even in wet conditions.

One of the best features of this speaker is the 360-degree design, which provides a wide and immersive soundstage. You can place it anywhere on your campsite, enjoy music around the campfire, or watch a movie with friends.

Aside from the lightweight design, build, and 360-degree music, the other important reason for getting this speaker would be its low price. Treblab specializes in budget solutions for music lovers, and the HD77 model is one of them.

So, are there any drawbacks? The HD77 has its limitations, of course. It lacks a thumpy low bass and doesn’t get very loud. But who wants a booming sound when enjoying nature and your surroundings?

Price: from $69.97 on Amazon.

6. POWERADD PRO PD 20 W Portable Charger

poweredd pro charging device

If a power station is too much for you, the next best alternative is to bring a portable charger or a power bank on your trip. The PowerAdd Pro Power Bank is a great choice if you’re looking for an affordable, fast-charging, 20,000mAh power source.

The PowerAdd Pro can fully charge most phones two to three times and features two fast charging ports. While it’s not the smallest power bank at 7.87 x 1.97 x 1.18 inches and a weight of 13 ounces, you can still easily carry it in your bag or pocket. It’s also not very slim, but with the bigger size comes more power.

size of portable power bank

The power bank comes with a USB-C to USB-A cable for convenient charging. With its 20W USB-C Power Delivery port and USB-A Quick Charge port, you can enjoy fast recharging for two devices at the same time.

The PowerAdd Pro is best suited for charging phones and tablets due to the power delivery capacity limited to 20W. However, the 20,000mAh capacity is more than sufficient for daily use.

power bank charging phone

The 20W USB-C power delivery port supports fast charging compatible with Android phones and iPhones with a USB-C lightning cable. So if your group of friends all have different types of phones, they can still use your PowerAdd power bank to top up their phones. The USB-A Quick Charge port is primarily designed for fast-charging Android phones but can also be used with non-quick charge devices.

Price: $29.99 on Amazon.

7. TREBLAB XR700 Wireless Sports Earbuds:

ear buds Treblab XR 700

If you’re camping in a big group, only some people’s musical tastes may align. But what if you can’t imagine a day without listening to your favorite tunes?

We recommend grabbing a pair of sports earbuds with you, like the Treblab XR700. While every earphone brand is now focused on creating the best true wireless earbuds packed with the latest technology and active noise cancelation, we recommend sticking with something simpler but more effective for camping.

girl wearing ear buds

The Treblab XR700 is a pair of sports headphones that stands out from the competition with its unique ear hook design. These headphones prioritize comfort and offer a superior fit to other athletic headphones in the same price range. You can move around, jump, and even run in them without worrying about losing your earbuds.

In terms of aesthetics, the XR700 has a sleek and minimalistic look, with a predominantly black color and subtle red highlights. Each earbud is slightly larger than usual and is connected to a black console with the Treblab name etched along its side.

closeup of earbuds

The controls are made as physical buttons, which is a plus for their reliability, and you don’t want to waste time fiddling with touch controls when you’re on a hike.

Despite their larger size, the XR700 earbuds remain lightweight, weighing just two ounces. The ear tips are angled and easy to insert into your ears. The cable connecting the earbuds is flattened to prevent tangling, making them easy to handle and store.

The XR700 comes with an IPX7 certification, meaning the earbuds are water-resistant and can withstand a couple of feet of submersion. While not recommended for complete water immersion, these headphones are shower-friendly.

With a maximum battery life of approximately nine hours, the XR700 offers above-average usage time for athletic earbuds. The slightly larger size and weight contribute to this extended battery life, making frequent recharging less necessary.

The ear-tips of the XR700 provide a layer of passive noise cancellation of around 11dB, but the noise isolation improves significantly when music is playing. Besides, you don’t want to cancel the outside noise when camping or hiking.

The XR700 may seem like an average pair of headphones with today’s technology. However, they’re the perfect pair of earphones for camping trips. The price tag of under $40 only adds to the headphones’ appeal.

Price: from 39.97 on Amazon.

8. Insta360 Go 3

insta360 camera

The final addition to our list is the latest tiny camera by Insta360 – the Go 3.

The Insta360 Go 3 is the perfect companion for your camping trip. It weighs just 1.2oz (35g), has a super compact design, and will fit in any pocket without adding unnecessary bulk to your camping gear.

The upgraded 2.7K lens allows you to capture stunning, high-quality footage of your outdoor adventures, whether with friends or on your own. Thanks to a new magnet pendant accessory, you can use the Go 3 to film completely hands-free and in POV mode. You can film unique footage and then relive your adventures long after they’re finished by rewatching it at home.
