Whether you’re recording your first TikTok video or you’re eager to explore trending challenges, encountering the dreaded “no internet connection” error can quickly put a damper on your TikTok experience. But don’t worry, we’ll delve into the underlying causes behind this error to offer you practical solutions and troubleshooting steps to get you back to scrolling, creating, and sharing without interruption.

1. Check Internet Connection

The most obvious, and common reason behind the “No Internet Connection” error on TikTok is an inactive, or unstable internet connection. That’s why before taking any other action, you should check what’s the status of your internet connection. It could be that your internet is slow, or the connection got interrupted.

Check Internet Connection image

The quickest way to check if your internet is acting up is to open a web browser on your device and try loading any website. If it loads, your internet is fine and the error is coming from somewhere else. But if the website won’t load, your internet is not working properly. Try connecting to another WiFi network, or reconnect to your mobile network by turning the airplane mode on your phone on and off again.

2. Check if the TikTok Server Is Down

If your internet is working but you still receive a “No Internet Connection” error when you try to load a video on the TikTok app, you should check if the platform’s server is down. If TikTok servers are down they can’t deliver the content to your device.

Visit Downdetector and type TikTok in the search bar. Then hit the enter button on your keyboard, or the search button on the website and wait for the results.

Once you get the results for your search, you’ll see if the TikTok servers are down and if other users are reporting server problems.

Check if the TikTok Server Is Down image

If Downdetector shows that the TikTok server is down, you can’t do anything about it. Wait for some time and see if the app will work properly in an hour. Platforms like TikTok or Facebook might shut down their servers due to maintenance, or because they’re experiencing a major glitch.

3. Relaunch the TikTok App

If your app is having technical problems, it could display a “No Internet Connection” error. Various errors and bugs can easily prevent the TikTok app from working properly on your device. If this is the case, the solution is easy. All you have to do is close the app and relaunch it. However, you’ll want to do a hard reboot of the app. It could solve many minor issues your app is experiencing.

To do a TikTok app reboot on an Android device:

  1. Press the Recents button to access all the recently opened apps.
  2. Scroll to the right until you find TikTok.
  3. Swipe up to close the TikTok app.
Relaunch the TikTok App image

To reboot it on iPhone:

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen, but stop in the middle.
Relaunch the TikTok App image 2
  1. Find the TikTok app, and swipe up to close it.

Once the app is closed this way, open it as you would normally. Now your app will start afresh and the “No Internet Connection” error might disappear.

4. Restart Your iPhone or Android Phone

Sometimes, it’s not the app that’s experiencing a glitch, but your phone. Whether you’re using an iPhone or an Android, it doesn’t matter. All mobile devices are prone to errors which can influence how your apps are working. Restarting allows your device to start its iOS or Android operating system fresh. Rebooting your phone can resolve many other issues you might be having with your apps.

To restart an Android phone:

  1. Press and hold the power button until a menu appears.
  2. Select Restart from the menu.
Restart Your iPhone or Android Phone image
  1. Wait until your phone turns off and on again.
  2. Once the system is up, open TikTok and see if this resolves your issue.

For iPhone users:

  1. Press and hold down the Volume Up + Side button, or Volume Down + Side button, depending on the model.
  2. Once the slider shows up on the iPhone’s screen, drag it to turn off your phone.

  1. Press and hold the side button to turn on your phone. Release the button once the Apple logo shows up.
  2. Launch the TikTok app and see if the “No Internet Connection” message disappeared.

5. Clear TikTok Cache Files

Apps store temporary files on your device that help them load content faster every time you use them. However, these temporary files can get corrupted and prevent the apps from functioning properly. TikTok is no exception. If you suspect a corrupted cache file is causing the “No Internet Connection” error to appear, you can simply clear cache files from your device and see if this fixes the issue.

To clear TikTok cache files on Android and iPhone:

  1. Launch the TikTok app and tap the Profile icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.

  1. Select the lines menu at the top right corner.

  1. Select the Settings & Privacy option from the menu.

  1. Scroll down until you find the Cache & Celular section. Tap Free up space.

  1. Tap the Clear button next to Cache.

Note that clearing TikTok cache files won’t delete any of your videos or saved app settings. It’s completely safe to clear the cache.

6. Update the TikTok App

If you’re using the old version of the TikTok app, it could be why you’re seeing the “No Internet Connection” error message. The new version of the app comes with fixes for known bugs and glitches that TikTok users reported over time. One of the bugs that the developers fixed could be causing you to experience the error. So go ahead and update your TikTok app. Here’s how:

  1. If you’re an Android user, open the Google Play Store and find the TikTok app. Tap the Update button next to the app.
Update the TikTok App image
  1. If you’re an iPhone user go to the App Store. Find TikTok and tap the Update button next to it.

7. Reinstall the TikTok App on Your Device

If none of the above methods works for you, and you’re still experiencing the “No Internet Connection” every time you try to watch a TikTok video, the issue might be within the app’s system files. These files can also get corrupted, but clearing them is not as easy as clearing the cache. That’s because you’ll have to completely remove the app from your device, and install it again. Reinstalling the app this way will delete all the potential problematic files.

Reinstalling the app won’t delete any videos you might have uploaded on your profile. However, you’ll lose all the draft videos, so make sure you either publish them or save them somewhere else on your device.

To remove the TikTok app from an Android phone:

  1. Find TikTok on your home screen, or in the app drawer.
  2. Tap and hold the icon of the app until a menu appears.
  3. Select Uninstall.
Reinstall the TikTok App on Your Device image
  1. Tap OK when prompted.

  1. Visit the Play Store and reinstall the TikTok app.

For iPhone users:

  1. Find the TikTok app on your Home screen.
  2. Tap and hold the app.
  3. Select the Remove app option.

  1. Tap Delete app to confirm.

  1. To reinstall it, visit the App Store, and select the Get button next to the TikTok app.

8. Use a VPN Service

The “No Internet Connection” error might also appear if TikTok finds your geographical location or the IP address conflicting with the app. You can resolve this issue by downloading and installing a VPN.

The VPN services will hide your actual IP address and replace it with a new one. By doing this, you’ll bypass certain internet restrictions set by your provider. Select the country where TikTok is not banned and the app will consider the new IP address appropriate. Now you can proceed to use TikTok normally.

Remember, persistence and patience are key as you work through each step, and don’t hesitate to reach out to TikTok’s support team if needed or leave us a comment in the comment section below.

Whether you’re a seasoned enthusiast or a newcomer eager to expand your network, understanding why you can’t follow someone on TikTok is crucial to unlocking the full social potential of the app.

This tutorial explores the intricacies of TikTok’s follow mechanics to help you seamlessly connect with the vibrant community that makes TikTok an engaging platform.

1. Private Account or You Were Blocked By a User

If you try to follow someone and receive a message, “You can’t follow this account due to privacy settings of the user,” it means that the account is private. Private account owners need to accept your request to follow them. It’s similar to how a friend request on Facebook or other social media platforms works.

Private Account or You Were Blocked By a User image

Similarly, if the user you’re trying to follow blocks you, you won’t be able to follow them. TikTok doesn’t inform you if you get blocked by someone. There’s no telling if you can’t follow someone because you were blocked or there’s a glitch with your app. If this is the case, you won’t be able to do anything about it. Not even TikTok support will be able to help you. Those are TikTok rules, and you’ll have to abide by them.

2. You Reached Your TikTok Following Limit

New users simply don’t know that TikTok has a daily limit on how many people you can follow. The latest statistic shows you can follow up to 140 accounts daily and only 30 per hour.

If you follow this number of accounts, you’ll be temporarily restricted from following more. There’s no solution to this problem. It’s how the TikTok app works, and you’ll have to wait for the next hour or even the next day to follow more people.

3. TikTok Server is Down

TikTok servers can experience an issue or go through regular maintenance that’ll cause them to go down. If your TikTok app or website is not working properly, it might mean the server has a problem. You can check the server status by going to the Downdetector webpage.

TikTok Server is Down image

If there’s a problem with the TikTok server and you cannot follow someone, you’ll have to wait until the server is working.

4. Your Account Has Been Shadowbanned

Perhaps you unknowingly broke one of TikTok’s policies and got shadowbanned. If this happens, your account will have less exposure and be restricted. One such restriction is not being able to follow other accounts.

You can quickly get banned for breaking community guidelines. For example, reasons can include promoting illegal products, uploading violent content, or using hate speech.

Your Account Has Been Shadowbanned image

Did you know you can also get shadow-blocked if you follow and unfollow the same account multiple times? If this is the case, TikTok will consider that you used their features in a wrong manner.

5. TikTok Considers You a Bot

If TikTok’s algorithm categorizes you as a bot, you won’t be able to follow other users anymore. It mostly happens if you connect to a public network and too many people appear with the same IP address, leading to TikTok suspecting bot activity.

To avoid being labeled a bot by TikTok’s algorithm, use a private connection and change your password regularly. Once the doubt about your account is cleared, you’ll no longer be considered a bot and regain the ability to follow TikTok accounts.

6. You’re Following Too Fast

TikTok can restrict you from following accounts if you do it too fast. You shouldn’t follow more than one account every 5 to 15 minutes. If you do, TikTok says, “The following feature has been disabled.”

This issue typically solves itself in several minutes. And you can continue following people as before. However, if you continue following after receiving the message, TikTok will consider you spammy and block your account for considerably longer. Following other TikTok users too fast is regarded as suspicious activity.

7. The App is Experiencing Technical Issues

The TikTok app, just like any other app, can be a buggy mess at times. It could also be that your app needs to be updated. It could restrict you from following, liking, or commenting on other people’s content.

If this is the case, there are several fixes you could try, and we’ll describe them all in the next section of this article.

How to Fix the Can’t Follow Someone on TikTok Issue

As you can see, there are various reasons why TikTok won’t allow you to follow someone. If this happens to you, don’t worry. There are some things you could try to resolve this issue. Which one will work for you depends on why you can’t follow someone. But you can try these fixes even if you’re unsure what’s causing the issue.

1. Try Using the TikTok Website to Follow Someone

Although some users aren’t even aware there’s a TikTok website, it’s also important to know that it has a different code than the mobile or desktop TikTok app. If your app is experiencing issues, simply log into the web version of the TikTok platform and enjoy all the features it has to offer until the app issues are resolved.

2. Be Patient

When you notice you can’t follow someone on TikTok, the best action is to take no action for some time. Wait a few hours, or even one day, and try again. This could be the simplest solution if your account is restricted from following because it reached the daily limit.

However, if you still can’t follow TikTok users after a day or two, look for other solutions.

3. Update the TikTok Application

Like most apps, TikTok uses regular updates to fix known errors and bugs. If you’re experiencing the following restrictions, you could try to fix them by installing the latest app version.

To update TikTok on the iPhone, visit the App Store, and select Update next to the TikTok app.

If you’re using an Android, go to Google Play Store, find TikTok, and tap the Update button.

4. Clear the TikTok App Cache

TikTok stores various temporary files on your device to improve your experience of the app. These temporary files help the app load faster each time you revisit it. However, the build-up of these files can cause issues with the TikTok app. Also, these files can become damaged over time or even corrupted. When this happens, you may experience various problems with the app, including restriction to the following feature.

That’s why you should occasionally clear the TikTok cache, even if you’re not sure if this is what’s causing your problem. To remove cache files directly in the TikTok app (both for iPhone and Android users):

  1. Open the TikTok app.
  2. Go to Profile at the bottom of the screen.

  1. Tap the three horizontal lines and select Settings and privacy from the menu.

  1. On the next page, find Cache and tap Clear next to it.

Android users can also clear TikTok’s system cache. Here’s how:

  1. Launch the Settings app.
  2. Scroll down to Apps.

  1. Select TikTok from the list of installed apps.

  1. Tap Clear Cache in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Unfortunately, this option is not available for iOS users.

5. Uninstall and Reinstall the TikTok App

If clearing the cache files from your TikTok app didn’t resolve the issue, it could be that the app’s core files are corrupted. If this is the case and the reason behind the restriction to follow someone, you’ll have to uninstall the TikTok app and install it again on your device.

If you delete the app from your smartphone, you won’t lose any saved TikTok videos, bookmarks, or any of the data related to TikTok. However, if you saved some unpublished videos in drafts, they’ll be lost, and you’ll have to upload them again.

To uninstall the TikTok app from your iPhone, tap and hold the app on your home screen, and then select Remove app. Confirm by tapping Delete.

How to Fix the Can’t Follow Someone on TikTok Issue image 12

Then, proceed by installing it again from the App Store. This process is the same as when you first installed it on your iPhone.

If you’re an Android user, find the TikTok app in your app tray, tap and hold it. Select Uninstall, and then tap OK when prompted.

Go to the Google Play Store, find TikTok, and install it again on your Android device.

6. Disable VPN on Your Device

VPNs are a great way to protect your online privacy. However, VPNs sometimes can cause trouble for internet-enabled mobile apps such as TikTok. If you suspect this is causing the issue with following someone on TikTok, simply turn off the VPN installed on your device.

If turning the VPN resolves the issue, you can set up a different location in your VPN app and turn it back on. If this doesn’t fix the problem, it’s possible TikTok banned all the IP addresses your particular VPN is using. You can try installing another VPN service or keep it disabled while using the TikTok app.

7. Contact TikTok Support

If you tried all of the above fixes and still can’t follow people on TikTok, contact their support team via email. Your email address depends on whether you run a personal or a business account.

Private accounts have three options to choose from:

If you’re a business user, you can contact support via:

By addressing privacy settings, clearing caches, updating the app, and exploring alternative methods, you can quickly resume following other TikTok users.

When you’re trying to view TikTok content but see a black screen that says “Post unavailable,” what does that mean? Underneath, you’ll see “This post is age-protected.” That can be pretty annoying if it’s something you want to view, but luckily, there’s a way around TikTok’s age protection. We’ll explain why TikTok age-protects some content and how to see age-protected posts on TikTok.

How to Get Around Tiktok's "This Post is Age-Protected" Restriction image 1

Why Does TikTok Say Age Protected for Some Content?

If you’re wondering why TikTok applies age protection to some content, it’s because it deems the content too graphic or mature for some users to view. This usually applies if you’re under 18 — more specifically, aged 13 to 17 — and TikTok supposedly follows the same rating systems currently used for films and video games. Sometimes, though, the age protection restriction can appear even if you’re over 18, though there’s a way around this error.

How to Get Around Tiktok's "This Post is Age-Protected" Restriction image 2

Can Anyone Turn Off Age Protection on TikTok?

There’s a workaround for how to see age-protected posts on TikTok, and we’ll walk you through it below. Note that this workaround is only applicable to TikTok users over the age of 18 who are seeing the age-protected message in error. There is no way to turn off TikTok’s age protection feature if you are aged 13 to 17.

How to Fix Age Protection on TikTok

If you’re seeing the “This post is age-protected” message on TikTok and you’re over the age of 18, it can be frustrating, to say the least. There’s only one way to remove this message, and that’s to change your birthday on TikTok. However, changing your birthday isn’t that simple.

How to Change Your Birthday on TikTok

If TikTok is showing you age-protected messages in error, you’ll need to change your birthday. Unfortunately, changing your birthday on TikTok isn’t as easy as changing your TikTok username. To update your birthday, you’ll have to contact TikTok support. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Launch TikTok and go to Profile.
  2. Tap the three horizontal lines at the top right of your screen.
  3. Tap Settings and Privacy > Report a Problem.
  4. Select Account and Profile.
How to Get Around Tiktok's "This Post is Age-Protected" Restriction image 3
  1. Tap Editing Profile > Other > Need More Help.
  2. Type in a request to change your date of birth then hit Submit.
  3. Note that you’ll be asked for a government ID to prove your birthday and age when customer service contacts you.
How to Get Around Tiktok's "This Post is Age-Protected" Restriction image 4

Once your birthday is changed, you should be able to view age-protected content without any issues.

Note: If you don’t hear back from TikTok customer services or cannot change your birthday, you may need to delete your account and create a new one to access age-protected content.

Are Age-Protected Posts Different From Restricted Mode?

Don’t confuse age-protected posts with TikTok’s Restricted Mode. The latter is a mode that can be set up for TikTok users of any age, even those over 18, and is ideal for parents or guardians who want to limit what younger users can see.

Here’s how to enable Restricted Mode:

  1. Launch TikTok and tap the Profile icon at the bottom right.
  2. Tap the three horizontal lines menu at the top right.
  3. Tap Settings and Privacy > Content Preferences.
  4. Select Restricted Mode > Turn On.
How to Get Around Tiktok's "This Post is Age-Protected" Restriction image 5
  1. Choose a four-digit passcode to turn the feature on, then tap Next.
  2. Enter the passcode again to confirm, then tap Set.
  3. When Restricted Mode is enabled, you should see it at the top of your screen.
How to Get Around Tiktok's "This Post is Age-Protected" Restriction image 6
  1. To disable Restricted Mode, follow steps 1 through 4 above, but this time, tap Turn Off, then enter your passcode and tap Next to turn off Restricted Mode.

TikTok also offers a filter system that can be set up to automatically block content with specific hashtags from appearing in your feed.

Now you know how to see age-protected posts on TikTok, you’ll never need to deal with the annoyance of blocked content again. Remember though, that there’s no way for users under the age of 18 to access age-protected posts on TikTok, as you need to provide a government ID to change your age and birthday in the app. Are you experiencing other issues with TikTok? Your phone will now start downloading the new TikTok update. After it’s finished, select Open to use the latest app version.

How to Update TikTok on iPhone and iPad

On iOS, you’ll need to use the Apple App Store to find and install the latest TikTok updates. To update TikTok on iPhone and iPad, follow the steps below.

  1. On your device, open the App Store.
  2. In the App Store, select your profile picture in the top right corner and swipe down on the page to refresh it. Find TikTok in the Upcoming Automatic Updates list, select Update to install the update immediately.

  1. If you don’t see TikTok in the list of apps or if it says Open instead of Update next to it, your app is updated, and you don’t need to do anything.

Your device will now download and install the latest updates. When it’s finished, open TikTok to use the latest app version.

What if You Can’t Update TikTok?

Ensuring TikTok is up-to-date is critical to unlocking its full potential with the latest features and fewer app bugs. If you’re encountering update issues, this could be a minor glitch, internet connectivity hiccups, or storage overload.

Sometimes, a quick reboot, switching between mobile data and Wi-Fi, restarting your router or modem, and clearing your device’s storage space can fix most update issues.

TikTok is one of the most popular social media platforms around, with 1 billion global monthly active users. Chances are, you make TikTok videos and share them regularly, but what happens if you also want to share your TikTok videos on Facebook? Or perhaps you want to share content from other TikTokers to your Facebook Story or Timeline? We’ll show you how to share TikTok videos to Facebook Timeline and stories — it’s easier than you think.

How to Share TikTok Videos to Facebook Timeline

The easiest way to share a TikTok video to Facebook is to share it directly from the TikTok app to your Facebook Timeline. You’ll need both the TikTok and Facebook apps installed on your phone. Here’s how to share TikTok videos to Facebook Timeline:

  1. Launch the TikTok app and navigate to the video you want to share. If it’s a video you watched previously, you can find it in your TikTok Watch History.
  2. If it’s your own video, tap the three dots to share. If it’s someone else’s video, tap the Share arrow at the bottom right.
  3. Scroll through the apps until you find Facebook.
  4. Tap the Facebook icon, and the Facebook app will launch.
  5. You should see a draft post with the TikTok video.
  6. To share this to your Facebook Timeline, just tap Post.
  7. You might want to press Play to preview the video before sharing, and you can also adjust the privacy settings, too.

How to Share TikTok Videos to Facebook Stories

Sharing TikTok videos to Facebook Stories is a bit more complicated. There are plenty of tutorials online claiming that it’s easy to share TikTok videos directly from the app to your Stories on Facebook, but sadly this isn’t the case (although this may work for some videos). The lack of ability to share a TikTok video to Facebook Stories directly is actually the topic for various posts on Reddit, and it’s an issue TikTok hasn’t yet fixed.

Don’t worry, though — there are a couple of options available to you if you want to share a TikTok video to your Facebook story, and we’ll take you through each option below.

How to Save and Share a TikTok Video to Facebook Stories

If you don’t mind downloading the TikTok video you want to share to your device, then you can share it from there to Facebook Stories. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Launch the TikTok app and find the video you want to share.
  2. If it’s your own video, tap the three dots; if it’s someone else’s video, tap the Share arrow at the bottom right of your screen.
  3. Tap Save Video and wait for the video to download. This may take some time, depending on the size of the video file.
  4. You should see the progress bar for the download at the bottom of your screen. Once the video has finished downloading, the Share to menu will pop up, but you can ignore this since we’re sharing to Facebook Stories.

  1. Open the Facebook app and tap Create Story at the top.
  2. Choose the saved TikTok video from your Camera Reel.

  1. Note that longer videos are trimmed to 60 seconds, but you can also choose to trim a specific section of the video by tapping Trim.
  2. You can add effects, text, or emojis to your video before sharing if you like.
  3. To share your video to Facebook Stories, tap Share.

How to Share TikTok Videos to Facebook Stories via Instagram

Since you can’t currently share most TikTok videos directly to Facebook Stories, there is another way. Provided your Instagram account is connected to your Facebook, you can share content posted on Instagram to Facebook. Here’s how to share a TikTok video to Facebook Stories via Instagram:

  1. Open the TikTok app and find the video you want to share.
  2. Tap the three dots if it’s your video and the Share arrow if it’s someone else’s video.
  3. Tap the Stories (Instagram) icon.
  4. Your video will automatically show a saving icon. Once it reaches 100%, Instagram will open.

  1. To share the story, tap the arrow at the bottom right.
  2. Tap Sharing Options.
  3. When the Share to Facebook screen appears, tap Continue. If your Facebook and Instagram accounts aren’t already connected, follow the on-screen prompts to link your accounts.
  4. Tap Share to share the video to both your Instagram and Facebook Stories.

On some videos, you may see an option to directly share to Facebook Stories when you tap the three dots or the Share arrow. However, this option isn’t reliable and doesn’t currently appear for all videos.

Hopefully, this has helped answer the question of how to share TikTok videos to Facebook Timeline. Both methods are pretty quick and convenient, so it really comes down to whether you prefer to download the video to your device or share it via your Instagram account. This might depend on the amount of available storage space on your device. It only takes a few seconds to share TikTok videos on Facebook, whichever method you choose.

How to Block TikTok on Android Devices image

TikTok is one of the most popular apps for both Android and iOS users, but there are several reasons why you might want to add it to your blocked items list. In this article, we’ll explain how to block TikTok on Android devices.

How to Block TikTok Using Android’s Digital Wellbeing Settings

Android offers a suite of Digital Wellbeing settings that help TikTok users manage their device and app usage. To block TikTok:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Select Digital Wellbeing and parental controls.

  1. Under Focus Mode, select Work time.

  1. Choose a Duration and press Start. For that entire duration, you’ll be unable to open TikTok. However, you can easily unblock TikTok by turning off the Focus Mode.

You can also limit TikTok’s screen time limits to zero minutes in order to block the social media app completely:

  1. Under Digital Wellbeing and parental controls, select TikTok from the apps list.
  2. Select App timer.

  1. Enter the value “0” for both hours and minutes, then press OK.

How to Block TikTok Using Parental Controls

The easiest way to block the TikTok app on Android is by using the parental control settings found within the Google Play Store app. To block TikTok:

  1. Open the Google Play Store.
  2. Tap your profile icon in the top-right corner of the app store.
  3. Scroll down and select Settings.

Note: This will prevent your children from downloading the TikTok app, but if it’s already installed, they’ll still have access — so don’t forget to uninstall the app first!

How to Block TikTok Via Your Router

It’s possible to block TikTok via your router’s administration settings. By doing so, you’ll prevent any device connected to your Wi-Fi from accessing the TikTok app or website. However, if the device is capable of using a mobile internet network, you’ll be able to bypass the block by turning off Wi-Fi.

To block TikTok from your router:

  1. Log into the administration page for your router. To do so, enter the router’s IP address into your web browser’s search bar and press Enter. The IP address should be 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.0, or something similar.
  2. Locate the Parental Controls settings. Most routers will have some form of content-blocking settings, that’s usually called “Parental Controls”, “URL Filtering”, “Blocking”, or similar.
How to Block TikTok Via Your Router image
  1. Select Blacklist, then add your keywords or URLs that you want to block. Add words like “tiktok” and “tiktok.com.”

  1. Press Save and make sure the settings are toggled on. Your Android phone and other devices on your home network will now be completely unable to load the TikTok website or app.

Note: Some routers will also let you set up a window of time where you can still access the app. This is useful if you just want to limit your screen time and not block the app entirely.

How to Block TikTok With a Third-Party App

There are several third-party apps and parental control apps that will help you block websites and limit access to apps like TikTok. These apps all work very similarly, preventing you from accessing TikTok and other specific apps when you’re not supposed to (or don’t want to).

Here are three free app blockers to choose from:

  1. Google Family Link. Family Link lets you set up parental control features to block apps. To use it, navigate to Digital Wellbeing and parental controls, then select Parental Controls. Press Get Started to set up an account and block TikTok.

  1. Stay Focused: Site/App Blocker. Stay Focused is a freemium app that lets you block apps and websites and limit your online activity on the Android operating system. Simply install the Stay Focused app and add TikTok to the blocklist.
  2. Block Apps & Sites | Wellbeing. Block Apps & Sites is another third-party freemium app that lets you add installed apps to a blocklist on your child’s phone or your own mobile device. To use it, install the app then locate TikTok and select Block Now.

How to Limit Screen Time on TikTok

TikTok comes with a built-in screen time limiting feature that helps users cut down on how much time they spend on the app. This can be a useful feature for maintaining your own productivity, as well as for cutting down how much time your kids use the app.

To use the Screen Time feature:

  1. Open the TikTok app.
  2. Press your profile picture in the bottom-right corner.

TikTok also offers a restricted mode that can prevent your child from accessing inappropriate content, while still allowing them to use the app:

  2. Press your profile picture in the bottom-right corner.
  3. Select Settings and privacy.

Note: It’s also possible to block TikTok and limit screen time on Apple devices including iPhones and iPads.

Save Time, Stay Off TikTok

These days, it’s so easy to get distracted, open your phone, and start watching short-form videos on social media platforms like TikTok and Snapchat. The time-wasting content is so addictive that it’s hard to turn it off. Worse, social media makes it too easy for children to experience cyberbullying and witness inappropriate content.

Sometimes, the only thing to do is block the app. Hopefully, with the help of this article, you can easily add blocklists, lock your TikTok account, and regain your freedom.

Anyone can create an account on TikTok, without verifying their age. However, if you want to change your age or birthday in the app, that’s a different matter. TikTok’s official stance is that you must be aged 13 or older to create an account, as some content on the app isn’t suitable for younger children and has been the subject of controversy after trending challenges have led to teenagers injuring themselves or others.

For this reason, if you want to change your age on TikTok, you’ll need to prove that you’re the age you’re claiming. We’ll show you how to change your age on TikTok if you entered it incorrectly when you set up your account.

How to Change Your Age on TikTok

If you’re wondering how to change your birthday on TikTok, or your age, the answer is that you can’t do this manually in the app or using TikTok on PC. It’s possible to change your username in the app, but if you want to change your age — for example, if you entered your date of birth incorrectly when you set up your account — then you’ll need to contact customer support to do this.

How to Change Age on TikTok by Contacting Customer Support

It’s easy to reach out to TikTok customer support to change your age or date of birth, and here’s how to do that:

  1. Launch the TikTok app and tap Profile in the bottom right.
  2. Tap the three stacked lines icon in the top right corner of your profile.
  3. Select Settings and Privacy.
  4. Scroll down to Support and About and tap Report a Problem.
  1. Under Topics, tap Account and Profile.
  2. Select Editing Profile, then tap Other.
  1. Choose Need More Help.
  2. Now, write a message explaining you want to change your birthday. Once you’re done, tap Submit to send the message to customer support.

It may take a few days to receive a response from customer support. When you’re contacted by the support team, the representative will ask to see a government-issued ID to prove your birthday and age. You’ll need to provide this for customer support to update your birthday and age on TikTok.

What if TikTok Support Won’t Update My Date of Birth?

Unfortunately, if you can’t provide a valid ID, your birthday and age will not be updated. If TikTok customer support refuses to change your birthday or age, you can always delete your account and create a new one with the correct birthday.

What Is Age Restriction on TikTok?

TikTok age restriction allows parents or guardians to filter out content that may not be suitable for younger viewers. Here’s how to set up Restricted Mode on TikTok:

  1. Launch the TikTok app and go to your profile.
  2. Tap the three stacked lines icon at the top right.
  3. Tap Settings and Privacy.
  4. Scroll down and tap Content Preferences.
  5. Tap Restricted Mode.
  1. Tap Turn On.
  2. Create a four-digit passcode to set up Restricted Mode, then tap Next.
  3. Confirm your passcode and tap Set.
  1. To turn off Restricted Mode, follow steps 1 through 5, then tap Turn Off and enter your passcode, and tap Next.

It’s not as simple as you might think to change your age or birthday on TikTok, which is why it’s so important to enter these details correctly — and honestly — when setting up your account. As you can see, it is possible to change these details, but you’ll need to reach out to customer support and provide ID to prove your date of birth and age. It may take a while for the support team to respond to you and action your request, and if you can’t provide ID, you might need to delete your TikTok account and create a new one.

TikTok’s Repost feature works much like the Retweet feature on Twitter: You can re-share content uploaded by somebody else with your friends and followers and credit the original creator. Because the Repost button is close to other buttons in the Share menu, it’s too easy to repost a video unintentionally. If you accidentally repost a video or repost something, then change your mind for whatever reason, you’ll be glad to hear it’s quick and easy to undo or delete your repost.

We’ll show you how to delete a repost on TikTok, but first, we’ll look at how to repost content.

How to Repost a Video on TikTok

It’s easy to repost content you want your friends to see on TikTok. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Find a video you want to share with your friends.
  2. Select the Share icon at the bottom right of your screen (the curved arrow).
  3. Tap the yellow Repost icon to repost the video.
  1. Your video has been reposted, so your friends will see it on their For You pages.

How to Delete a Reposted Video on TikTok

So you’ve reposted a video, and now you want to delete it? It should be as simple as going to your profile and deleting the offending repost, right? Wrong. TikTok doesn’t work like Twitter, so the repost won’t appear on your profile. Instead, it only appears on your friends’ For You pages. So how do you delete a repost on TikTok?

  1. Go to the reposted video. Hopefully, you can remember what you reposted!
  2. On the right side of the video, near the bottom of your screen, tap the Share icon (it looks like a curved arrow).
  3. Tap the yellow Remove Repost button.
  4. Your repost will now be deleted.
  5. You should see a confirmation message at the top of your screen, saying, “Your repost has been removed.”

You no longer need to wonder how to delete a reposted video on TikTok. As you can see, it’s straightforward and takes just a few seconds. From now on, you don’t need to worry if you accidentally share a clip you never intended to repost or if you change your mind after reposting another creator’s video.

How about if you want to delete a TikTok video that you uploaded initially? The steps for this are slightly different. While you’re here, you might also want to check out our beginner’s guide to how to make and edit TikTok videos, which contains everything you need to start creating on TikTok.

Have you heard that you can “pin” videos or comments on TikTok but aren’t sure exactly what that means? Here, we’ll explain the Pin feature and how to use it on TikTok.

What Does Pinned Mean on TikTok?

Pinning to most means saving an item to the top of your list. You’ll see the feature on other social media platforms like Instagram. Instagram users can pin a comment or post to make it the first one you see.

Following this same theory, you can pin one of your TikTok videos to place that clip at the top of your profile. When a follower views your profile, they see that video you’ve pinned right at the top along with a “Pinned” indicator in red.

As of this writing, the ability to pin TikTok comments is no longer available. If you long-press a comment to select Pin from the pop-up menu, you’ll notice the option is missing.

It’s difficult to determine exactly when TikTok removed the feature; however, it’s been discussed on websites like Reddit, Quora, and even TikTok itself.

The reason the Pin feature was removed isn’t clear either. Some believe it was to reduce harassing, negative, or malicious comments. However, TikTok hasn’t confirmed this nor provided a concrete reason (as of yet).

Luckily, you do still have the ability to pin a TikTok video, so let’s take a long at how to do so.

How to Pin a Video on TikTok

If you want to make sure other TikTok users see your favorite videos or those you’re most proud of, you can pin up to three. Should you want to pin another, you’ll need to first unpin a video (explained below) and then pin the next one.

Additionally, the Pin feature is only available in the TikTok mobile app. It’s not yet a feature you can use on the TikTok website on your computer.

  1. Open the TikTok app on your Android or iOS device and select the Profile tab.
  2. Play the video you want to pin.
  3. Use the three dots on the right to open the menu and choose Pin in the bottom row.

You’ll see a brief message at the top that you’ve pinned the video. When you return to your profile page, you’ll see the video at the top of your list and the Pinned indicator on it in red.

How to Unpin a Video on TikTok

If you decide later you want to remove a video from the top of your list or prefer to pin a different one and have reached the three-video limit, you can unpin a pinned video.

Follow the same steps as above to launch the TikTok app, play the video, and open the three-dot menu. Then, choose Unpin.

You’ll see a message that the video has been unpinned. When you view your TikTok profile, the Pinned indicator no longer appears and the video returns to its original spot in your list.

Will You Add a TikTok Pin?

Pinning a video on TikTok is simple and can ensure your followers easily spot those videos you want them to see most. As far as pinning comments, maybe the feature will resurface on TikTok in the future. What are your thoughts on the TikTok pin feature?

Now that you know how to pin a video on TikTok, check out our tutorial for using text to speech on TikTok.

Does the TikTok app keep closing on your iPhone, iPad, or Android phone? Chances are your app is experiencing bugs and crashing as a result of that. There are other reasons your app closes unexpectedly. We’ll show you how to go about fixing this problem.

Other reasons you can’t use TikTok uninterruptedly include your background apps using too many resources, your phone having a minor glitch, TikTok’s cache files being corrupt, your phone not having adequate storage space, and more.

1. Force Close and Reopen TikTok

One reason TikTok crashes on your phone is that the app has a minor glitch. If you restarted the app but to no avail, try forcing the app to close and reopen. This should resolve your problem.

Note that you can only force close apps on Android. You’ll have to use the standard close-and-open method if you use an iPhone or iPad.

On Android

  1. Open your phone’s Settings app.
  2. Select Apps > App management in Settings.
  3. Choose TikTok on the app list.
  4. Select Force stop to close the app.
  1. Choose Force stop in the prompt.
  2. Reopen TikTok from your app drawer or home screen.

On iPhone and iPad

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of your device’s screen and pause in the middle.
  2. Swipe up on TikTok to close the app.
  1. Tap TikTok on your home screen to relaunch the app.

2. Close Running Apps on Your Phone

Your phone may have other apps running in the background, using too many system resources. This leaves insufficient resources for TikTok to work with, making the app unstable and causing it to crash.

In this case, close all your background apps and launch TikTok to see if the app still crashes.

On Android

  1. Press the Recents button to view your open apps.
  1. Swipe up on all your open apps to close them.
  2. Launch the TikTok app.

On iPhone and iPad

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of your device’s screen and pause in the middle.
  2. Swipe up on all your open apps.
  1. Open the TikTok app.

3. Reboot Your Phone to Fix TikTok Keep Crashing

Your iPhone, iPad, or Android phone may have a minor glitch, causing TikTok to crash. You may experience this issue with your other installed apps as well.

A quick way to get around most minor bugs on your phone is to reboot the phone. Doing so disables all your phone’s features and re-enables them, allowing any minor issues to be fixed.

Make sure you save your unsaved work before powering off your device.

On Android

  1. Press and hold down the Power button on your phone.
  2. Select Restart in the menu.

On iPhone

  1. Press and hold down either Volume button and Side button at the same time.
  2. Drag the slider to the right.
  1. Turn your phone back on by pressing and holding down the Side button.

On iPad

  1. Press and hold down either Volume button and Top button simultaneously.
  2. Drag the slider to turn off your tablet.
  3. Turn your tablet back on by pressing and holding down the Top button.

4. Clear TikTok’s Cached Data on Your Phone

TikTok stores cache files on your phone to improve your app experience. These files help the app quickly provide you with the content you’re looking for. Sometimes, these files become corrupt, for various reasons.

TikTok’s corrupt cache may be the reason you’re experiencing app crash problems. In this case, you can clear the app’s cached data and resolve your issue. You don’t lose your login session or account data when you delete the cache.

Note that you can only clear the app cache on an Android phone. You’ll have to uninstall and reinstall the app to delete the cached data if you’re on an iPhone or iPad.

  1. Open Settings on your Android phone.
  2. Select Apps > App management in Settings.
  3. Choose TikTok on the app list.
  4. Select Storage usage.
  5. Tap Clear cache to remove the cache.
  1. Launch the TikTok app.

5. Update TikTok’s App Version on Your Smartphone

If you’re using an old version of TikTok on your phone, that may be why you’re facing crash issues. Old app versions are usually not stable, and you can experience a variety of issues with such versions.

Luckily, you can update the app to the latest version and resolve your issue in no time.

On Android

  1. Open Google Play Store on your phone.
  2. Find and select TikTok.
  1. Tap Update to update the app.

On iPhone and iPad

  1. Open App Store on your device.
  2. Select the Updates tab at the bottom.
  1. Choose Update next to TikTok on the list.

6. Free Up Your Device’s Storage Space

TikTok needs to store certain temporary files on your phone to function. If you’re running low on storage space, the app can’t create and store those files, resulting in a crash.

To get around that, free up a bit of your phone’s storage space, and your issue will be resolved. iPhone, iPad, and Android offer a storage analyzer, making it easier to decide what files to delete to free up your storage.

On Android

  1. Open Settings on your phone.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap About device.
  3. Select Storage.
  4. Review your storage usage and delete the content you no longer need.

On iPhone and iPad

  1. Open Settings on your device.
  2. Select General > iPhone Storage or iPad Storage in Settings.
  3. Analyze your storage space usage and remove the items you don’t wish to keep.

7. Uninstall and Reinstall TikTok on Your Device

TikTok’s core files can go corrupt, causing the app to misbehave on your phone. There’s a good chance your app is crashing because the app’s core files have been altered.

In this case, you can uninstall and reinstall the app to fix your problem. Uninstalling the app removes all the faulty files, and re-downloading the app brings new working files.

You don’t lose your TikTok account data when you do this, but you’ll have to sign back into your account when you reinstall the app.

On Android

  1. Tap and hold on TikTok in your app drawer.
  2. Select Uninstall in the menu.
  1. Choose Uninstall in the prompt.
  2. Open Google Play Store, find TikTok, and tap Install.

On iPhone and iPad

  1. Tap and hold on TikTok on your home screen.
  2. Choose X in the app’s top-left corner.
  3. Select Delete in the prompt.
  1. Launch the App Store, find TikTok, and select the download icon.

8. Update iOS, iPadOS, or Android on Your Phone

Your phone’s operating system’s issues can cause your installed apps to malfunction. TikTok’s cause of the crash may be a system problem on your device.

In this case, you can update your device’s software version to the latest one, possibly fixing all the bugs in the system.

On Android

  1. Launch Settings on your phone.
  2. Select About device at the bottom.
  3. Choose the Software update option at the top.
  1. Download and install the available updates.

On iPhone and iPad

  1. Open Settings on your device.
  2. Select General > Software Update in Settings.
  1. Get the latest updates and install them.

9. Upgrade Your Smartphone

If TikTok continues to crash despite following the above methods, your smartphone may not be fully compatible with the app. Although TikTok officially supports many Apple and Android devices, your device may be too old and may not have enough resources to fully support the TikTok app.

In this case, your best option is to upgrade to a newer smartphone. You can get any modern Apple or Android device, and it’ll likely have full support for TikTok.

Saying Goodbye to TikTok’s Crash Problems

TikTok’s crash issues occur due to a variety of reasons. If you find the underlying problem and fix that, your issue should be resolved. The guide above outlines some of the common ways to fix TikTok on your iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.

We hope this guide helped you resume your watching and posting sessions on this short-form video app. Enjoy!

Are you experiencing issues using the TikTok app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android phone? There’s a good chance the app is facing a minor glitch, but there can be other reasons. We’ll tell you the most common causes of the issue and how to fix them.

Some other reasons you can’t use TikTok on your phone include your phone having a minor problem, your internet connection being unstable, TikTok’s servers having an outage, and more.

Why Is My TikTok Not Working? 8 Ways to Fix It image

1. Relaunch TikTok on Your Phone

When you experience an issue with an app, regardless of what the app is, it’s always a good idea to relaunch the app to see if that fixes the issue. You can resolve many minor problems by giving your application a restart.

On iPhone and iPad

  1. Swipe up from your device’s bottom and pause in the middle.
  2. Find and swipe up on TikTok to close the app.

2. Reboot Your Phone

If restarting the TikTok app didn’t fix your issue, restart your phone and see if that resolves your problem. Rebooting your device has many benefits, such as fixing many minor glitches with the system.

Don’t forget to save your unsaved work on your device before you begin to turn it off.

On iPhone

  1. Press either Volume Up + Side or Volume Down + Side buttons on your iPhone.
  2. Drag the slider to power off your phone.

On iPad

  2. Swipe the slider to the right to turn off your device.
  3. Turn your device back on by pressing and holding down the Top button.

On Android

  1. Press and hold down your phone’s Power button.
  2. Choose Restart in the menu.

3. Check Your Internet Connection

TikTok is an internet-enabled app, meaning the app connects to the internet to find and fetch new content. If your internet connection is unstable or isn’t functional, that may be why you’re facing issues with TikTok on your phone.

You can check your phone’s internet connection by launching a web browser and opening any site. If the site opens, your internet connection is working fine. However, if the site doesn’t open, you may have an issue with your connection.

You can resolve most minor internet connection problems yourself, or seek your internet service provider’s help.

4. See if TikTok Is Down

Like many other online services, TikTok’s servers can go down, causing a platform-wide outage. These issues usually occur when the platform’s servers are facing technical difficulties.

That may be the reason TikTok isn’t working on your phone. In this case, you can head to a site like Downdetector to verify if TikTok is indeed facing an outage. If it is, you’ll have to wait until the company brings the servers back up.

5. Clear TikTok’s App Cache on Your Phone

One reason TikTok doesn’t work is that the app’s cache files have become corrupt. Various items can cause these files to go corrupt, including viruses and malfunctioning apps.

In this case, you can resolve the issue fairly easily, as all you have to do is clear the app’s cache files. Deleting these files doesn’t remove your login session or any other data in your account.

On iPhone, iPad, and Android

The TikTok app itself has the option to clear the cache files. You can use this option on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.

  1. Open TikTok on your phone.
  2. Select Profile in the app’s bottom-right corner.
  3. Choose the three horizontal lines in the top-right corner and select Settings and privacy.

  1. Tap Free up space on the page that opens.
  2. Select Clear next to Cache to clear the app’s cache files.

  2. Close and reopen TikTok.

On Android

  1. Open your phone’s Settings app and head into Apps > App management.
  2. Select TikTok on the app list.
  3. Tap Storage usage on the app screen.
  4. Choose Clear cache to delete the app’s cached data.

6. Update TikTok on Your Smartphone

Outdated apps usually don’t perform well and have bugs. Your TikTok app may be an old version, causing you all sorts of problems.

Luckily, you can resolve all those issues by updating the app on your phone. The latest app version should fix your problem and possibly add new features.

You can update TikTok for free on your iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.

On iPhone and iPad

  1. Open App Store on your device.
  2. Select Updates at the bottom.

  1. Choose Update next to TikTok.

On Android

  1. Open Google Play Store on your phone.
  2. Find and select TikTok.

  1. Choose Update to begin updating the app.

7. Reinstall TikTok on Your Phone

If your TikTok app continues to create problems, the app’s core files might be faulty. You can’t access or modify these files, so your only option is to uninstall and reinstall the app on your phone.

Doing so deletes the app’s existing files and installs working new files. You don’t lose any of your TikTok account files, but you’ll have to log back into your account when you re-download the app.

On iPhone and iPad

  1. Tap and hold TikTok on your home screen.
  2. Select X in the app’s top-left corner.
  3. Choose Delete in the prompt.

  1. Re-download the app by launching App Store, searching for TikTok, and tapping the download icon.

On Android

  1. Tap and hold on TikTok in your app drawer.
  2. Select Uninstall in the menu that opens.

  1. Choose Uninstall in the prompt.
  2. Launch Google Play Store, find TikTok, and tap Install.

8. Utilize a VPN App

One reason TikTok doesn’t work on your phone is that the service is banned in your region or country. In this case, the app won’t load any content as the access to its servers is restricted.

One way to get around that is to use a VPN app. Such an app transmits your data through a middle server, allowing you to bypass your country’s internet restrictions.

You can get a VPN app of your choice and select a country where TikTok is allowed. Then, launch the TikTok app, and you’ll see all your content as usual.

Getting Around TikTok’s App Problems on Your Smartphone

The TikTok app usually works very well. However, there are times when the app experiences hiccups. Once you identify the cause of the issue and follow the methods above, your issue should be resolved.

You can then load your video feed, like and comment on people’s videos, as well as perform all other activities within the app without any issues. Happy watching!

Just like adding snippets of text to photos, you can do the same with videos you post on TikTok. You can include an explanation of the video, a title for your audience to see, or just something fun.

What’s nice about the text feature on TikTok is that you can customize the font style and color. If you save the video as a draft to work on it further before posting it, you can edit the text before your followers see it. We’ll show you how to add text to TikTok videos so you can take advantage of this built-in feature.

How to Add Text to TikTok Videos

If you want to pop some text in a new video right after you capture it, it’s an easy task.Open the TikTok app on Android or iPhone and follow these simple steps.

  1. After you capture your video, you’ll see the tools display along the bottom or right side. These include stickers, filters, and of course, text. Tap the Text icon on the bottom on Android or top right on iPhone.
  1. You’ll then see the customization options along with your keyboard. Type the text you want to add so that you can preview the customizations you choose. The text appears as an overlay on your video.
  2. On the left, you can add a background, partially transparent background, no background, or outlined letters. Next, you can pick the alignment from left, center, or right and include a voice for text-to-speech if you like.
  1. On the right, choose the font style you’d like to use. You’ll see options for Classic, Typewriter, Handwriting, Neon, and Serif.
  1. Finally, you can pick the color in the second row. If you use a background or outline for the text, the color will apply to that, otherwise it’ll apply to the font.
  1. If you want to move the text to a different location, simply drag the text box with your finger.
  2. As you adjust the customizations, you can see the changes immediately. When you’re happy with the text, tap Done in the top right corner.
  3. Add any other effects you’d like to the video and select Next at the bottom when you finish.

You can then add hashtags, tag people, include a location, or make any other adjustments you’d like, just like any other video you capture and post. To publish the video, pick Post or to save it and publish it later, pick Drafts.

Edit, Add, or Remove Text on a Draft

If you save a video you capture to the Drafts so that you can post it later, you can edit text you added or include new text.

To edit the text, select the video thumbnail in the Drafts section of your profile. Tap the text box on Android or tap and hold on iPhone. Choose Edit from the list of editing options. Make your changes and select Done when you finish.

To add text, select the video in the Drafts section. Select the Text icon to type and customize your text as described earlier. Tap Done when you finish.

To remove text you’ve added to a Draft, open the video and tap the Text button. Select Edit and then remove all of the text. Tap Done to save your change.

After you edit, add, or remove text from a Draft, you can select Next and move onto publishing the post. Alternatively, tap the arrow on the top left to go back and then choose Save as draft, Quit editing, or Continue recording in the pop-up window per your preference.

Including text on a video can be useful or fun, it’s up to you. Make the most of the text feature on TikTok for your next post; it might just go viral.

As a TikTok user, you probably watch many videos that you enjoy. But what if you forget to like, favorite, or comment on a video that you love? Using the Watch History on TikTok, you can go back in time.

Once you turn on the TikTok Watch History, you can access those videos you’ve viewed in the past seven days any time you like. If you want to keep a copy of your Watch History, we’ll also show you how to download it.

As of this writing, November 2022, the Watch History feature is only available in the TikTok mobile app on Android and iPhone, not the web application.

Use the TikTok Watch History Feature

You can enable Watch History for TikTok on Android or iPhone in just a few taps.

  1. If you don’t see the pop-up message, select the gear icon on the top right of your watched videos. Then, turn on the toggle for Watch history.

You can then select any video you see in your history to watch it again, add it to your favorites, or make a comment; just like you’re watching it for the first time.

Have you ever uploaded the wrong video to TikTok? It happens sometimes, especially if you produce multiple videos per day. The good news is that deleting a TikTok video is easy. The bad news? TikTok might punish you and cause your views to drop if you do.

Unless absolutely necessary, don’t delete any of your videos. Uploading one by mistake is one thing; bringing down an established video because it doesn’t perform like you want is something else. It could hurt your overall traffic on the platform. While getting docked by the TikTok algorithm can be fixed, it takes a lot of extra work that could be better spent growing your audience.

How to Delete a TikTok Video on Mobile

Deleting a TikTok from the app on iPhone or Android devices is often the easiest approach.

  1. Open TikTok and then tap the Profile icon in the bottom-right corner.
  1. Select the video you want to delete.
  2. Tap the three dots on the lower-right side of the screen.
  1. Scroll all the way to the right of the menu and then tap Delete.
  1. When the confirmation screen pops up, tap the Delete option. It resembles a trash can icon.

That’s all it takes to delete videos from your TikTok app.

How to Delete a TikTok Video From Your Browser

Deleting a video from your browser is a bit more straightforward than through mobile, if only because there are fewer clicks involved.

  1. Open TikTok in your web browser of choice.
  2. Select your TikTok account icon in the top-right corner of the screen and then select View Profile.
  1. Select the video you want to delete and then select the three dots in the top-right corner.
  1. When the confirmation window appears, select the Delete button.

Deleting a video is as simple as that.

What if you want to hide a video without deleting it? This helps you avoid getting dinged by the algorithm, but can also stop the video from accumulating views. You might want to do this if you’re working to build a brand but you have a video that targets the wrong audience through its hashtags. That audience can skew who TikTok shows your content to and make it harder for you to reach the right people. The good news? It’s easy to hide a video from other TikTok users.

How to Make a TikTok Video Private

A private TikTok video can be an alternative to deleting a video. Changing the privacy settings of a video is simple enough.

On mobile:

  1. Open TikTok and select the video you want to make private.
  2. Tap the three dots icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  3. Scroll over and select Privacy Settings.
  1. Select Who can watch this video.
  2. Select Only me.

Through a browser:

  1. Open TikTok, select your TikTok profile icon, and then select the video you want to make private.
  2. Select the three dots in the top-right corner of the screen and then select Privacy Settings.
  1. Select Public > Private.
  1. Select Done.

Once you do this, TikTok will hide that video from your profile so that no one else can see it. Hiding what you post means it won’t appear on anyone’s home page and will disappear from anyone’s favorite videos list, as well as your profile page.

How to Delete Your TikTok Profile

If you decide that your account just isn’t working out for you and you want to leave TikTok for a different social media platform or just start a new account, then you can delete your entire account instead of removing individual videos. Note that this is a permanent decision; once you do this, you can’t reverse the choice. You’ll have to start over from scratch.

On mobile:

  1. Open TikTok > Profile.
  2. Tap the three lines in the top-right corner and select Settings and privacy.
  3. Tap Manage account > Delete account.
  1. You can select a reason why you’re leaving the platform, or you can tap Skip in the top-right corner.
  1. You can then download all of your TikTok data if you like. Before you are able to continue, tap the icon at the bottom to confirm you have reviewed the data request alert.

Continue to follow the on-screen instructions. Your account will be deleted, and you’ll be free to start a new TikTok account.

Through a browser:

  1. Select your Profile icon > Settings.
  1. Select Delete beside Delete account.

Follow the remaining instructions to delete your account. The end result will be the same as if you deleted it through the iOS or Android application.

Like all social networking platforms, TikTok is algorithm-driven – but because the platform is so new, it’s hard to keep up with the best practices for growing your audience. If you make a mistake and start to lose followers or just can’t seem to gain the traction you need, consider starting over with a new account, deleting a few offending videos, or just making them private so the algorithm focuses on the kind of content you want to push.
